sadly Ann.Lu is "dead" since anonimous users (aka trolls) were cutted off.

All my best to Christian and a big Thank You for all the effort you spent :-)

Who cares anymore? seriously... ann was dead since they dissabled anonymous comments. With this announcement nothing changes actually.

I also wonder why this needs to be posted here on morph.zone (the link ckemp removed for political reasons from his site)? Oh well... :-)

Anyway... there is amigans.net now for having fun :P

    regards,
    tokai

It was a great site, even more so in the first five/six years or so. Not being able to post anonymously killed it off though. Shame to see it go, but it was inevitable.

Too bad that Christian closed the messageadding for the final thread. So, I express my thanks to him here for having a truly great site at times, (and also truly bad site at times :-)) .. but the news and downloadlinks were nice to have.

Also I am sure no-one cant deny that lots of sensitive issues were spoken and revealed at ANN, things which could still be under the mat today.

I find it a bit funny that the site closes only a few days atfer the most significant release of AmigaOS was revealed... but seeing the amount of replies on this subject I understand even better why Kemp made his decision.

    I will. :-(

However, I am very glad that the massive archive of Amiga history that ANN consists of will remain online for the time being. That is a true treasure.
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :-)

ANN was a site truly free.

    Other sites censored embarassing comments...

(for example MorphOS comments were deleted on other Amiga sites)

...and certain other sites are so nervous that maintaners even wipe out entire HD contents and are forced to re-issue entire site just in order to avoid embarassing comments...

(any reference is purely due to chance).

Those who love ANN please write to Christian Kemp in order to let him change his idea to close the site:

    mailto:ckemp[at]ann.lu

And remember that ANN is not declined due to trolls.

It is a very ppor site graphically and in pure HTML, while nowadays forum sites are gorgeous, all made by PHPNuke or by some other PHP integrated development IDE.

ANN has not avatar or image linking, so people leave it.

If it could be re-designed and keep some restyling with gorgeous graphics, it will be back, famous as once.
Bill Gates "Think!", Steve Jobs: "Think different!" So... Let these guy continue blabbering thinking and enjoy computing! We are on Amiga!

The site will be a great loss, it was one of my daily stops for news. What a shame.

IIRC, long time ago I had the habit to first check ANN for Amiga news then the rest. But nowdays I'm used to AW for the same purpose.

Perhaps amiga.org can one day fill the gap as the true news/forum service for all flavours.

Wow that really sucks! I hope someone has proper archives! Is Christian Kemp OK?

I'd say 99% of all the Commodore and Amiga related websites from when I first got on the internet in 1996 are gone. Back then you pretty much assumed something put online would be there forever. Sadly the exact opposite has happened.

The Wayback Machine seems to have a pretty good backup, at least to 1999. Certainly better than nothing.

    Here's a gem.
