What kind of topic is this for the bar? Well, it just so happens that some news just came out in the US, which was quickly retractred, that hits an old wound from very long ago...
According to
GamePro Magazine, GameStop (a large game retail chain in the US) is indicating that after the completed merger with EBGames (another large retail chain, formerly known as Electronics Boutique) that the main offices and many stores will be closed from EBGames.
Why mention that here? Well, Electronics Boutique has several connections with our small community. For one, this store was where I bought my first A500! Back in the days of Commodore, EB was a retailer that really helped to push the A500's into the market. The next connection should be obvious to anyone familiar with the history of C=, their headquarters are in West Chester, PA.
With EBGames (Electronics Boutique) now being closed forever, it's headquarters (in West Chester) closing, the circle of the curse has closed. EB was one of the first, and definately, the biggest chain-retailer to carry the A500's. I suppose a chapter in computer gaming history is now closed, and we await the next chapter.
*I don't think all stores will be closed, as GameStop is absorbing EBGames. I do not think there will be any interruption in service to customers, so there should be nothing to worry about there. Furthermore, any closings will probably occur after the holiday season as well, since it is the busiest time of year for game retailers.
