Hi folks,

I thought I would take 5mins to report on Big Bash 3 that happened yesturday in Peterborough in the UK.

This was the first time I was able to get a day off work to goto a BB meeting (I usually work saturdays) and while the show is not as big as WOAse or Alt WOA it was certainly a viable size and proved perfect for the amount of people who turned up (Id estimate around 100 souls). This was the first time I've been to an Amiga show that has had wives and children running loose and terrorising the geeks throughout!!!! It made this a nice family-orientated day. On that note - Congrats to MickeyC for once again finding someone (Julia) who will put up with him!

I took along my Pegasos II running the latest MorphOS and (almost) the latest Ambient and I have to say it drew in lots of people to see the hardware and the OS itself. The UK is somewhat starved of Pegasos users and so people here are rather "blind-sided" towards the A1 and OS4. Hopefully I can help change that!

On that note I'd like to welcome to the fold Darren and his wife Nicole, who brought along their Peg I that he had recently bought. In fact Darren proved invaluable as he had a MOS1.3 boot disk on him which I would have been in trouble without. I'd bought a competition Pro USB joystick, which Poseidon recognised but didnt work with Quake III so I took out the MOSSYS:Libs/lowlevel.library (NOT intuition.library as Id previously written! hehe) to leave an older version in MORPHOS:Libs/ but this then stopped the machine booting! And of course there's no equivelant of "boot-with-no-startup" Thankfully with the boot disk I could load up and put the library back.

So as well as saying hello to Darren and Nicole I'd also like to say a big hello to Alkis and TCD who are MOS users and at the show.

I mentioned Quake III earlier - I demonstrated its prowess on and off throughout the show and it impressed a lot of people. Running at a max of 70fps and an average of 30fps this is pretty darn quick (faster than a friend of mine's PC - Hi Cyka) It'll be interesting to see the speed on OS4 as and when it's ported.

Anyway, I won't bother to report on the rest of the show unless you all ask me to, there'll be reports on several sites so you can easilly read those there.

@Bifford: there's no "boot without startup" option, but it doesn't mean you can't halt startup at beginning and open a shell...

You'll find a small tool here that allows to stop the boot process by pressing a key: http://nogfx.free.fr/morphos (see morphos_tools readme: it explains how to halt startup). Then you may just exit the shell to continue bootprocess as usual or reboot.
Of course it won't replace a "boot without startup option" if the problems happens too early (before loadmondrvs), but it's still usefull...

Thanks for buying the Comp Pro USB joystick - it was nice to meet you!

I knew it worked with the excellent Poseidon on the Classic Amiga (with lowlevel.library) so I was glad it worked on MorphOS version.

Now I wish I had the time to have a look at QuakeIII....

NP, I won't get to use the two CD32 pads until I've moved into my new flat (If and when the Solicitors pull their fingures out and say I actually have the place) and unpack the thing. Something to look forward to!

Hi Bifford, that is a nice report and we appreciate having the names linked to some of the faces. Thank you for attending and "waving the flag" so to speak. It was great to learn about the new Pegasos I users and see the continued use and value the older version of the Pegasos still retains.

We have to admit we were happy to see Bobson so fit and trim. It must be his new married life and a regular job!

You have been a dedicated user and supporter since the very beginning. Thanks for that too!

We really enjoyed the Amiga Big Bash 3 It was great to put faces to all the names at last.

We did great for Pegasos/MorphOS as we sold e Pegasos II Mainboards. One went to a Commodore collector who paid instantly the next day using Paypal and one went to two nice gentlemen from Birmingham ( i think that they were the Bitmap Brothers but they were keeping it secret).

The pizza took ages to arrive and when it come it was not very nice but i was hungry so I eat it.

It was nice to see some Pegasos machines running Quake III they were like cats amongst the pigeons and was really nice to see so much interest!

Hope to see a UK Pegasos dedicated Meeting one day...Maybe I should set something up?

I've now put up a note on the front page saying that if you look at the site using Internet Explorer the pics wont display right.

So now Im basically gonna say to you: get a decent browser. Firefox displays the pix fine!

As does Ibrowse and Voyager

The site is xhtml compatible. IE obviously is not! :P

hehe - I feel exactly the same actually. I'm useless. I'll recognise a face, or I'll recognise a nickname, but putting 1 and 1 together to get 2 is never easy! Thankfully 95% of the users had their names on their name "stickers" so that helped massively!!!

And then there's #amigaworld. I've only ever been into the channel on the odd day every few months. Since the show I've been in every evening (mainly cause my own channel has gone deathly quiet of late). Haveing chatted and photographed many of #aw there's now a link there - they all loved my photos and some wanted full-sized copies so "friendships" (I hope I can call them that) have grown.

My pleasure I happen to like OS4 too, but Peg/MOS was here first when I needed it and I havnt regretted the descision. I want both camps to succeed but I also know that OS4 users are somewhat "blind-sighted" when it comes to the Peg and MOS so I shall keep championing it in total amiga and user group shows.

I've rambled too long....!
