I want something similiar. Indeed with different shape and form, but such big block for 100% passive cooling. The pegasos board has mounting plates for larger cooling solutions already, so why not use them. :-)

    @bbrv:

looks IMHO a bit small. :-)

I'm still looking forward to an official solution by genesi. I mean using inofficial solutions also destroys product warranty. And when the G4 then overheats I cannot get a replacement for free.

The Zallman that bbrv mentioned is fine for cooling the G4 on it's own.

And as was mentioned in another thread: adding a fan to it means you lose a DIMM bank, so it's hardly small :D

The official solution from Genesi will cost you the price of a new G4 card. I doubt we're going to do a trade in for new heatsinks.

Just leave the fan on for now.

I don't have any problems with noise on my G4 fan, it's very quiet, but it's not exactly high quality, it's gotten unstable or somesthing and started to make terrible noise like once a week since I got it. I've managed to fix it by adding more grease inside it, but it only helps so much... So I have bought the Zalman cooler and the same fan as Develin, but It's only the fan I need to replace, but since it's soldered to the card and it voids warranty I am waiting a bit to see if it goes bad again.

    Right on...A G4 card running at 1.3+GHz would be a cool upgrade...even WITH a
    fan...I'd buy one.

    >The Zallman that bbrv mentioned is fine for cooling the G4 on it's own.

Is this your personal opinion or official word about that matter?
Do you care to share the measured max. temperature when running e.g. rc5
in a system with just the PSU fan?

What is the price of a G4 card and can I do a trade-in?
Will it be only available with e.g. brand new 1.3GHz cards
    http://www.ann.lu/comments2.cgi?show=1072474703&category=forum&number=29#comment

Honestly, I never expected to get the "regular" 1GHz PPC when the
low power one is also available at the psychologically important 1GHz
mark and Genesi advertizes the power saving and "cool computing" potential
    at http://www.pegasosppc.com/images/processor/G4_benchmark.png while
the detailed image of G4 card clearly shows they did implement this
very version in the past: http://www.dcecom.de/images/G4_1GHZ_BIG.jpg

One of Pegasos' features truely is the silent operation.
Just today I explained somebody what the Pegasos II is and his second
question was "does the G4 run fanless?". Afair even VIA has to use a
fan for their 1GHz C3 CPU, so we could have a quite unique feature here
(together with the one or two integrated Gigabit Ethernet ports).

I did some measuring on the big jpeg-image posted by tarbos, and realized that a 50x50-cooler can be easily mounted to the cpu-card. I will probably use an Alpha LPD-50 or a Zalman 47 NB-cooler for my G4. Thanks a lot for the image! :D
