These collections of programs are generally the result of their convenience, but ultimately, the content is always what a person will never use for their daily use of the system.
I disagree there. A "collection of programs", distribution called, is going far above some preinstalled individual programs. If you use it to enhance the user experience in the desktop, it cannot be replaced by a simple program installer. But it certainly depends on what you want to do.
