Just looking around

Hi everyone,
I've built a dual-stepper pipe pressure gauge using a stepper motor (https://www.oyostepper.com/).
I've achieved good results through trial and error, but I'm still a little unclear about the "optimal" values for the analog/stepper motors and whether interpolation is necessary (my understanding is limited to nonlinear scenarios).
I believe this stepper motor has 2038 steps per revolution, and I plan to use it with a gauge (i.e., a pipe pressure gauge) that has a scale from 0-80 that covers approximately 75% of its circumference.
Can anyone offer some advice on how to configure stepper motors consistently for different pressure gauges, rather than resorting to the "trial and error" approach I've adopted?
Thanks very much,
