Could this be an opportunity for MorphOS to grow its user base on the X5000?

I doubt it. As soon as A-EONs replacement OS4.1 is ready this will be bundled with the X5000 and the upcoming (cough...) A1222. And they got quite far reaching that goal (see last Amiga Future).

The ease of use running MorphOS and OS4.1 next to each other on an X5000 will grow its user base more IMHO. Hopefully the work on the X1950 running as a 2nd card next to a GCN one turns out well (Thanks bigfoot!)

As there is no easy way to put a 2nd x16 PCIe card into an X5000 because there is only a single x16 slot opposed to e.g. a PMacG5 PCIe where I can easily fit multiple cards, I don't see any ease of use that way - unless you add a PCIe Riser of course which leads to other mechanical problems.
Still, it would be nice to have the software fixed to make it possible (and bigfoot is working on it afaik). If that causes any increase to the MorphOS userbase is a completely different matter, though.

Indeed. ATI/AMD Fire* PCIe x1 cards may be the easy way to go, then.

    > PCIe Riser [...] leads to other mechanical problems.

This thread has examples of PCIe x1-to-x16 risers and PCIe x4-to-x16 cables that seem to work well with PCIe x16 graphics cards in the X5000 standard case.

    Absolutely.

Since the other relevant thread disappeared in the recent data loss, I can now confirm here that this issue is indeed fixed now, and the fix will be available in MorphOS 3.17.

This is awesome. Now, after 4 years of complaints here on MorphZone and elsewhere, there is (or will be as of MorphOS 3.17 release) no longer any technical reason for anybody not to run MorphOS on his/her X5000, even in dual-boot with OS4 :-D

Sorry for my stupid question, but what was problem so far?
I have an X5000 running it with a X1650 Pro. And it works fine with MorphOS as well as OS4.1.
So, what have been fixed in detail...?

The main problem I am aware is, that I cannot or better: should not both SSD cards (one MorphOS, the other OS4.1) connected because allegedly then MorphOS can access the OS4 SSD card which may cause damage. This is annoying: plugging in, plugging out

    > what was problem so far?

So far, on the X5000 you cannot dual-boot OS4 and MorphOS with OS4 using a 3D-supported PCIe card. As soon as you insert a PCIe graphics card that is supported by OS4 but NOT supported by MorphOS, MorphOS won't boot even with a MorphOS-supported graphics card in a secondary PCIe slot.

    > I have an X5000 running it with a X1650 Pro.
    > And it works fine with MorphOS as well as OS4.1.

There are people who, opposed to you apparently, seek to run OS4 with hardware 3D acceleration with their OS4/MorphOS dual-boot setup. For those, this fix is a big deal because starting with MorphOS 3.17 they will be able to run both operating systems with 3D support without card swapping, namely with two 3D-supported graphics cards installed, one for each OS.

MorphOS will NOT damage the OS4 installation if the disk is just present there. It could damage the OS4 file system if you wrote anything to the OS4 partition, but MorphOS wouldn't do it on its own. You can force the OS4 partitions to be read-only using the Lock command, just put that into your user-startup.

Anyway, this is all because the OS4 developers decided to make their SFS incompatible with AmigaOS3 and MorphOS' SFS.

I wrote a long, detailed reply for you earlier, but then as I was almost done, power went out. So now you're getting the short version instead :D

Long story short, if you have a single graphics card in the primary (x16) PCI Express slot that works for you in all the operating systems you want to run, then there was no problem. If you're in a situation where you want to use two different graphics cards for two different operating systems, or even just one graphics card in a PCI Express slot that's not the x16 slot, then you're out of luck, at least until MorphOS 3.17 gets released..

On the MorphOS side, I fixed a few different issues that prevented MorphOS from booting with a graphics card in a non-primary PCI Express slot on the X5000, thus enabling you to, well, boot MorphOS with two graphics cards installed. And no, before anyone asks, using 3 graphics cards in the X5000 won't work with MorphOS :D

Pity, as that would be the ultimate X5000 multi-boot setup:

    - PCIe x16 slot with GCN-based card for OS4
    - PCIe x4 slot with TeraScale-based card for Linux
    - PCIe x1 slot with R500-based card for MorphOS

    :-)

Xena/Xorro is best to be ignored, even with my envisioned setup :-)

Would be great if we can use MorphOS 3.17 on our X5000 without the card swap hussle :-)

I have been using the X4 to X16 cable now for the graphics cards as you can now see in the second page of the thread you refer to. That cable costs around 25 - 20 euros and the X4 connector fits nicely under the cooling fan of the Primany graphics card.

Yes, that's what I referred to in my comment that I wrote here some hours after you posted those pictures to the Hyperion forum. In fact, the second page was already complete by then ;-)

    Yeah!

I have the following X5000 setup running

    PCIeX16 slot RX570 for use with AmigaOS4.1
    PcieX4 slot FirePro V3700 Linux / MorphOS

I have used a PCIe X1 riser and PCIe X4 to X16 cable, and both work perfectly.

    Thanks Morphos Team!!

I am a new X5000 user and would need help
I was able to install Linux OS4.1 and MorphOS but only if the video card is mounted in the PCI16x slot
I bought a PCI1x to PCI16x adapter to mount a second graphics card but I have no video output.
The cards I have tried in the converter are
Radeo 1950 pro 512 mb memory
    Radeon 6670 1g memory
but they work great in the PCI16x slot
to make the converter work I have to change something in the firmware My firmware is dated 2018-10-05
    thank you
    Greetings Gianni

    Thanks 1000
    Problem solved with MorphOS
Mounted two monitors instead of one with two inputs
    If I don't disturb a cotesia yet
    With linux I still can't
    I changed the Xorg.conf device from 0 to 1 but I can't change anything
The sequence I use for booting is the following
    setenv linuxboot
    setenv bootargs dev = / dev / sda2
    load sata 1: 1 1000000 uImage-5.18
    load sata 1: 1 2000000 cyrus-p5020.dtb
    bootm 1000000 - 2000000
To get the video on the card mounted on the PCIe-1x do I have to add something?
because this is how only the card mounted on the PCIe-16x works
    greetings Gianni
