The manual says "Use 80 pin ATA cables for EVERYTHING". Should I use a 80 pin cable for a CD-ROM drive that is connected to the 2nd IDE port as a Master drive only?

I am asking this, because strange things happen, I burn the firmware update and some additional files on my PC to a CD and try to read it on my Peg2, it says either there is a Read/Write error on the CD (tried different branded CD's) and sometimes it doesn't, when I try to copy the UPDATE file to my Boot partition, the system locks up.

    Any suggestions?
If it is the buggy old firmware,
I can't transfer the UPDATE file to my Peggy!!!

I have burned the files on my Windoze PC, with a TEAC CDR-55S and Nero Burning Rom.

and on my Peg2, I have tried with both LG 52x and AOpen 4824 Combo drives. Could not manage to just copy a file from a CD to the boot partition.
Now I go out to buy a 80pin IDE cable.
