    I am still using yaboot, but sine I also use kexec to boot newer kernels from existing kernels, poor yaboot is barely used at all, lol :) I should indeed try grub2, just never thought of it as OF boot menu + yaboot always worked well enough. Would love to hear more about your adventures with grub2 :) The G4 mini are quite nice Linux systems, especially when you can decide yourself what features and packages your want and need, and trim it down to that, which Gentoo is perfect for IMO. Oh, and CFLAGS, hehe.

    Btw, if you are sick of watching compilations scrolling by in your terminal window, you can set EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS="--quiet-build" in your make.conf and enjoy the pretty colours and stats :)

    And a heads up, in case you are experimenting - I have no go with gcc-8.1.0 and kernel building, so better keep gcc-7.3 around, at least for building kernels.
