The thing is... the information window isn't only used to edit the icon. It's used to edit both the file's protection bits and its icon file. Two files.
If it would automatically create an icon file every time you change some protection bit, the problem would be reverted
I was the same for the wb, AFAIR.
If 3.10's Ambient comes with a specific button to create an icon, I believe this is a good solution for the two opposite use cases...
