    hello,

after installing some software via "Grunch" (which is a nice tool btw), I tried a game I installed "Goonies". I have had some trouble closing it and system could not be used anymore, so I powered it off.

After reboot, screen stays just grey, and when booting from cd it load to ambient desktop, but no icons appear, instead there is a message:

    Smart Filesystem request
    Device DH1: (ide.device, unit1)

Has an unfinished transaction which will be loaded now.

    after "OK" it says:

    Deviec Dh1: (ide.device, unit 1)

    The transaction loaded succesfully and
it will now re-applied to this volume.

    after "OK"

    screen gets dark...

I waited a few minutes and power off again, try to boot from harddisk... screen stays grey...

booting from cd does not work, either - it sends me into "Smart Filesystem request" again - so I see no way to re-install MOS on my disk again (which is kind of sad)

Have you tried booting from CD then running sfsdoctor on that partition yet?

I had a HDD failure while using MorphOS and got an unusual message after/during that problem. It may just be possible that the HDD in whole has failed or just a specific partition - this advice may be useful . . or not. ;-)

You may be able to re-partition the HDD in a different way to avoid this issue, or it may not be the HDD problem I have mentioned anyway, but it could be this kind of issue, or a re-install that is required, or some problem with the SFS filesystem, as already suggested by Intuition.

I also have had a problem with SFS as it froze and didn't save one or more of the SFS HDD files correctly and it did an automatic data assessment and correction as it re-booted, which automatically solved my problem on that occasion.

Good luck, hopefully it's not much of a problem, and you haven't lost much data.

I would, but I do not get this far... Ambient bar shows up and the Filesystem message is all, there is.
I have no way to access the cd, I believe...

Hmmm, you was lucky, I guess - on my system I does not manage a repair.
The rest of the disk seems ok, OS X and detain are booting fine...

I think, I have to erase/format the MOS partitions, in order to be able to re-install MOS to my disk...

Before, I had some problems with the "Mounter" app (freezing), see my other thread here, if you wish.

I did not have lost that much - I was in the middle of some visual tweaking and installing some software...

it sounds like a harddrive problem. I see you are using an SSD, what interface are you using?

Some of them tend to overheat and block after a while. I strongly suggest to not get some cheap crap as IDE->mSATA Adapter.

DeLock Adapters are known to work quite well.

If it is just some old hdd, then it may just starting to die.

it is just a new PATA 16GB SSD, without an adapter...

I manage to re-install MOS to my disk, but it was not that smooth, as stated in the "how to dual boot" description:

At 1st try on installation, every partition is shown twice (doubled) - I can select a partition for DH0 and DH1, but can not change the fileformat. programm complains about sector size or something like that.

Then I start the mounter tool from cd, which brings up a list of partitions. I can format and rename partitions now (right-click on top menu bar) and when I go back to the partitioning table and select the partitions and change filesystem in installer, it works. Installer allways wants to write boot into the "bootstrap" partition and only DH1 is shown with an icon...

I had to change the device for boot manually to the DH0 "Boot" partition and unmount "Bootstrap".

Installer does not show DH0, still only DH1 but the path for boot is set correct and get´s shown in the line of text at the bottom of this window... I hit install and after a few minutes, it says "installation succesfull!"

After re-booting from hdd, everythings works fine, except for the mounter tool, it freezes again, after listing the partitions...

well, I guess I have to live with that
