I have been considering trying MorphOS. I have found an A1138 that I can buy. I was looking up the license cost of MorphOS and it looks like it will cost me between 120.00 and 130.00 USD. Is that right? That could be a deal breaker.

To try MorphOS, you don't have to buy a license - the only trouble is the 30 min. reboot. You can get a cheaper
powermac - but to be honest what do you compare your cost with ?
I bought a license in 2011 and I get continious updates and support with no restriction and no extra cost.

By the way, what brought you to MorphOS? We might be able to tell you a few things.

I'm just waiting for my "new" 17" powerbook 1139 to come in and will be listing my 1.5Ghz 15" model soon for sale. It will included a license for MorphOS and I plan to let it go for about the cost of just the license. Just to put it out there.

I used to be an Amiga user years and years ago. I have known of MorhOS for over a decade. As for as
the licensee cost. In short the hardware is going to only run me a little less then 200.00 USD. The Morph OS lic is about 60% of that, 120.00, in addition to that. I would pay the normal cost if I was able to run MorphOS on a modern laptop, but this laptop is almost 11 years old. Sorry, I just won't do that.

But it looks as if there may be one for sale, all set and ready to go soon. I have PMed him for some more info...

Yes, every update since version 2.0 (mid 2008) has been free of charge. Consider that Windows and MacOS has not been that generous. And from what we have been told they have no plans to charge people for updates again.

Tools, hardware, web hotels and such aren't free so that expenses have to be paid from somewhere. MorphOS sells about one licence a day, which translate to that the developers aren't exactly bathing in money. They have actually said that they work for free. It's for all the other stuffs the money goes to.

Then just reboot at the timeout. I have registered about 4 systems. I pay for quality software and for what I pay, it's totally worth it. When I've had issues I either ask here or IRC and get help. IMO, this is such a small market that $120 is not worth their time to work on this OS but they do. Running MorphOS reminds me of when I bought my first Amiga. I had the same feeling when I bought a Powerbook and put MorphOS on it.

PowerBook G4 A1106 15.2" G4 1.5GHz is the version I am selling. Its the lower cost version of the last Powerbook before they went X86. Its a very capable machine. I have had zero issues with it, and it support 100% of the hardware in it other than the firewire and blutooth. No models use that though. Here is the info on it: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powerbook_g4/specs/powerbook_g4_1.5_15_2.html

The Journey has begun. I have just purchased an A1138. It should be here in about a week. Any recommendations on SSD for this system?
