Sound output for more than one application at the same time

While playing around with MOS I notice that the sound system seems only to work in an kind of exclusive mode for only one application at one time. A second or third application that will make sounds is always silence.

Is there a way in MOS to allow more than one application to output sound at the same time to sound card?

With Google I found an sound driver from 2005 at Aminet that say it allows several AHI applications to work simultaneously. I install the files and select the device.audio in the audio settings, but I don't see the effect that the sound of different apps was mixed together as I hopped...

Here the link to the driver:

In MorphOS audio settings, select 'Music Unit' from the top left menu, then select a 'Unit: 0' mode from the list below, then save.

You must setup the "unit" driver with the music unit. Simply open system prefs, select audio, choose "unit 0: hifi..." from list and save settings.

This allows you to play music with mplayer and owb at the same time.

You should remove those files you installed. MorphOS comes with AHI built-in and in fact a newer version than you linked.

What you want is to configure AHI units and programs using AHI to use non blocking modes. It may decrease quality, but allows simultaneous usage.

Some programs may use AHI's Music Unit which doesn't work with other audio simultaneously by default. You can work around that by setting Music Unit to use Unit 0 like most other programs. Go to MorphOS system settings -> Audio and select some Unit 0 mode for Music Unit.

With correct configuration you can hear audio from all programs simultaneusly... music players, mplayer, browser, games etc.

btw, what does the "Filesave" modes do?
Should they redirect the sound to a file (where can I specify it?) instead of playing it?

I uninstall all the files of the old driver and select as the music unit the "unit 0: hi.." and reboot the system. But still had the problem that only one application can make sound at the same time.

Than I boot MOS from CD and select the Unit 0 and this time more than one application can make sound at the same time.

So I reinstall MOS 3.7 and see that all still works fine.
I install Chrysalis pack 3.7.1 and still all works fine.
I make a bit customization of background and look and feel of ambient, auto-mount my NAS over Samba, install WHDLoad and configure, install some games and I did all those thinks a had done with my previous installation. But multiple sound output still works fine when using Unit 0. So unfortunately I can't reproduce the state I had before. Maybe it was one of the few software updates I did't with Grunch ? Or it was this old sound driver? At the moment all seems fine...

Well with the game xgalaga I see that it still only works exclusive with the sound but this maybe related to this single game. All other applications and games I try out can now make sound at the same time.

Thanks to all for your help.

Sorry, after reinstallation all works fine now and I can't reproduce the problem at the moment.
