France will face Samoa in the first Cup semi final after they beat Wales 19-7 in their quarter final. In the other Cup quarter final New Zealand was too strong for Portugal with a decisive 28-7 win. The All Blacks Sevens will now face Kenya in the other Cup semi-final. The Plate semi-finals will see Canada try to rebound from todays loss with a win against Portugal, and Fiji will play Wales. Canada and Portugal are both new core teams on the expanded sevens circuit. The Canadian women, defending champions in Dubai, lost their opening match 15-12 to upstart Russia before bouncing back to beat China 32-0.
