I had same problems some time ago - most of the time the signal seems to week for PB's internal WIFI! But on the opposite the Atheros-card (Cardbus) works fine under same conditions. I found out that sensitivity of internal WIFI is only about 30%-40% of Atheros-Card.
This behaviour is known by developers since beta-test-time of bcm43xx_wl.device, but till yet thy did'nt find the reason for .....(afaik)
This is remarkably, because this device has full sensitivity under MacOS.....
