Be interesting to see what they come up with and more importantly, the price.

I wouldn't expect to see a lot of expansion but expect lots of memory slots.
You won't be able to make much use of all the multiple cores/threads but then again that leaves a huge wodge of cache (36MB?).

Somehow, I find the existing ATX reference board more interesting than whatever server boards may come, even though there seem to be only 2 expansion slots on it.

I suspect they'll be remarkably similar.

What they really need to do is cost reduce the POWER8 chip.
It currently has a set of high speed interconnects that are there for connecting to other POWER8 chips. They are completely useless on that board.

Cut those off and you could put the memory busses on chip (they're currently on a North bridge).
That would cost less and save a load of power in the process.

I suspect you may see this happen but it'll likely be a year or two away.

BTW I was wrong about the cache. It's 96MB (!) on chip and a further 128MB on the north bridge.
I forgot how much of a monster that thing is!

It's 16 MiB on the Centaur.

Are you sure this is Power8? ;-)

The physical size, the power consumption, the chache size, the amount of cores, the clock, etc, etc suggests some semi-boring SoC from Freescale if you ask me...

e500mc core, an eight core 32 bit processor.
I'm really not interested in this company's stuff.
They seem to look for crappy processors.
Why not use the the T4080?

After being burned by rumors from IBM and Nintendo on the specs of the WiiU, I find these specs less than believable.

This article is very badly researched and ignores facts that have been publicly documented by Servergy and covered by the press for 1.5 years. Ironically, Servergy hosts an uncommented copy of this rubbish on its website.

Yes, as sorted out 1.5 years ago:

    > I'm really not interested in this company's stuff.

Btw, does anybody have news on the P-Cubed? The last marginal sign of life I saw was from October 2013 (and that was from Freescale, not even from Servergy itself).

    > They seem to look for crappy processors. Why not use the the T4080?

Because they obviously can't use a future chip for a device that's been available for months and that started being developed years ago, and because, as you know, they already announced the CTS-1000's successor with T4240:

    https://morph.zone/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?forum=3&topic_id=7183&start=929

And after that, they intend to go for POWER8 (or derivative):

"The company intends to extend its product line by developing future OpenPOWER-compliant systems based on IBM’s POWER microprocessors"

    They didn't counter it either.
Nintendo knew what they were getting and they remained silent while IBM was blathering on about the non-existent connection to Watson.

That's true but still doesn't equal Nintendo endorsing the claims in my book. IBM is the maker of both Espresso and Watson/POWER7, so it's them who should know. There is no reason why Nintendo should care about what's in IBM's Watson and whether or how that relates to Espresso.

No idea if that died on the vine.

Do you think Power8 will supplant the PPC?

Would that computer be even remotely useful in a MorphOS context, hypothetically? It's one thing that it's PPC, all components must nevertheless be port friendly to be useful to us.

I could see myself buying one to run "MorphOS NG" on it though :-)

Apart from the POWER8 "Turismo" and accompanying Centaur chip from IBM, according to http://www.tyan.com/manuals/SP010_QIG_v1%200.pdf the major on-board peripheral controllers are these:

    - SATA3: Marvell 88SE9235
    - USB3: TI TUSB7340
    - GbE: Broadcom BCM5718

Given that Ubuntu Linux is the recommended OS for this board/system, there should be open source drivers.
