A new MorphOS/OS4 comparison?

Would be really interested in a software comparison.
Whats available to both systems and what features are included.
Would say this is more important than power testing as its normal usage that means something in everyday life.
Might also give some good pointers to new users of either system whats available.

Having said that, if something is particuarly struggling to be useable on a particular hardware/softare combo, this should be highlighted.
Wouldnt want actual figures, just a rough idea.

For example I know OWB and Mplayer have got features on the Morph version that the OS4 hasn't.

This type of report would be of more interest to some (Although I'm sure not all) and might highlight some useful software that not everyone is aware of.

Where? According to Hitachi GST, there are two models of the HTS54108:

    - HTS541080G9AT00, which is PATA
    - HTS541080G9SA00, which is SATA

    http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/5k100/5k100.htm

    > Generally I thought and think G4 minis have a PATA interface

    That't correct.

    > but why does unit control report me the serial of a SATA drive

I think it doesn't. You have the PATA model, I bet.

You're right. I was just using the "HTS54108"-string for a google search and the first results showed the SATA version only. Hadn't thought of the option that the same series could be available in PATA and SATA. Maybe my short thought was supported by this surprising good data transfer rate.
Anyway, while not knowing the cause for this high number I am just glad the hdd performance is that brilliant.

It is a repeating pattern. Everytime I point the fact that MorphOS (and its applications) have more features, are better integrated, follows Amiga Style Guide more and make better use of hardware resources, someone tries to dimnish my statements with comparing to some "mainstream" operating system.

There is good old saying on IRC from #AmigaFIN which goes along lines: "it is not worth effort to fight with amiga indians".

    Exactly!!!

Please ask yourself this question - do you want to perfor a honest OS comparison or only a comparison biased from MorphOS user perspective?

In fact, I'm not interested in any comparisions, as I have time neither for doing them nor for reading them.

But still, having enough time for making comments on'em, don't you?

How about that for making proper use of hardware resources:

"Even now, as I am downloading this 152 MB file, I can still work without interruption, browsing the web and blogging simultaenously. Try that with any other OS!"
    http://apps.amiwest.net/blog/?e=80152&d=08/24/2012&s=Who%27s%20Coming%20to%20AmiWest%202012%21%3F%21%20%2D%20Part%202

I mean, downloading a file and *at the same time* continuing browsing the web and writing some text into a textbox. For sure, MorphOS users and the users of any other OS can only dream about that!

    ;-)

On the other hand your Macmini was almost free (I paid 100 eur for mine) so the total cost is still quite low. I pay YEARLY the same amount of TV-tax here in Finland it cost me to buy Macmini+MorphOS license.
