Thanks! I tried this and I got MorphOS to install!

But when I tried to reboot, I got an error message. "Can not boot".

I formatted one partition of 4 MB with SFS and installed sucessfully MOS on this. What did I do wrong?

Is there something I need to do when I format the Flash disk? Like make two partitions (one for boot img, one for system) for example? Do I need to copy something manually? Or do I need to name the partion in a certain way? Or should I just try to reinstall again and see if that works?

Aha! I guess I'm too used to install on Macs I'll take a look at it after work.

I guess not that many install MOS on Efika anymore, but a link from the installation instruction page would be much appriciated, with a note of where to look when/if things go wrong. Looking at the FAQ was not my first idea since for me FAQs are not really there for troubleshooting.

I did'nt read that all, but the way to boot is simple:

Preparing:

1. Do what AW wrote: Set HD to RDB and make first partition SFS. 2nd partition can also be SFS or ICE-FS (for files >2GB)
2. Format these partitions
3. Install Morphos on first partition (could be a 1:1 copy of the ISO or use installation tool) The file boot.img MUST be on 1st partition!

Guess you've done this 3 steps, did you?

Now lets play with Open Firmware:

Type in following:

> -1 to lines/page (will display maximum lines on screen and waits for keypress to continue)
> printenv (displays all environment variables)

Now you should see many entries, but the interresting one are those (and the value in the left column):

boot-device -> should be set to "hd:0"
boot-file -> should be set to "boot.img"
boot-command -> should be set to "boot"
auto-boot? -> should be set to "true"

you can set propper values by following command:

> setenv "Var-Name" "value or string" (eg: setenv boot-file boot.img)

Then reboot - it should work!

If not: If there is an error like "cannot find hd:0" or similar, then the devalias for hd is not set. hd:0 means first partition of hd.
And hd should be set to: /builtin@F0000000/ata/@F0003A00/disk@0,0
you can check this with command > devalias
If not set, it has to be defined in nvram (non volatile ram) with nvedit. But normaly it should be preset from factory......
(For testing you can type in:
boot /builtin@F0000000/ata/@F0003A00/disk@0,0:0 boot.img)

The first three steps I had already done. When I got home from work now I did your step-by-step guide and everything worked beautifully! I needed to change the boot-file and after that MorphOS booted without any hitch and everything works as it should! Thank you so very much!

Fine! Have much fun with your EFIKA.

Btw some hints:
You may shorten bootime from 5000 to 2000! It's long enough to break in emergency-case and you need'nt too long to wait....
If you set boot-time to zero or too short, you can only break to enter Open Firmware by holding down a key, during-switch on EFIKA or by removing the boot device.

In some cases EFIKA may have troubles booting from USB-STicks or USB-HDs. But there is another way to boot and install:
For emergency you can also boot via Ethernet! You need only to run a TFTP-Server on another Amiga/MOS/Windows/...-machine connected to the same network. Put install.img in TFTP-Servers origin directory, start the server and boot on EFIKA with:

boot eth:<server ip>, install.img (eg: boot eth:192.168.0.1, install.img)

Install.img can be found on MorphOS homepage (http://www.morphos-team.net/morphos-3.3-efikainstall.img)
TFTP-Server can be found on AmiNet.

EFIKA will boot now in a minimal MorphOS, which let you easy prepair your HD and do the real installation.

There are also additional, usefull boot-options for the Quark-Kernel:
"BM" boots to Bootmenue (same as Amiga's early startup by pressing both mouse buttons)
"PC" Preload DOS-command (or any other Amiga/MOS-program)
"BD" changes bootdevice for MorphOS(!) - this does'nt really make sense on EFIKA, because most installations on EFIKA have MorphOS AND boot.img on the same partition.....

example:
boot hd:0 boot.img BM ->boots to boot menue
boot hd:0 boot.img PC "addbuffers >NIL: CD0: 20000" ->adds 20000 buffers to device CD0:
boot hd:0 boot.img rd rds 0 -> sets romdebugsize to zero - saves a little memory.....
