PPC accel makers loved the 7448. Supposedly, it runs 50 percent cooler and is more computationally efficient as well. All the fastest accelerators in Mac land seem to be using it.

I kinda miss the days of saving up and buying accelerators for Amigas, and that first big 'Oh WOW!! Look how much FASTER it is!' moment. For some reason, getting a faster PeeCee never had the same feel to it. I'm thinking Quicksilver with 1.8Ghz G4, then hit the overclock sites and push for 2.0. I don't care if the CPU dies in a few years, btw. 'Can' outweighs 'should' in this case ;-)

Would make a great media box/DVR machine.

To be precise, there are two 7448 Mac accelerators (each available in different configurations): The Newer Technology MAXPower G4/7448 and the PowerLogix PowerForce48. All the other Mac accelerator producers either didn't want to use it from the start (e.g. GigaDesigns), mostly because of the high cost, or announced an upgrade board with it but stepped back eventually (e.g. Sonnet, Daystar (which even had a prototype ready)).

But note what laire says about 7448 support in MorphOS:

Why not aim for a stock 2.0 GHz model by Newer Technology (7447A/B or 7448) or PowerLogix (7447A/B)?

No. The exact details will be provided when we're ready to release support for them.

You may want to start actually reading the threads you take part in? ;-)
