SFS woes on Pegasos II

In theory you made no mistake, in practice though try and keep your SFS partitions below 100gb (I've 3x98gb partitions working reliably for years) or you may try the 68k version of SFS and utilize the SFS/02 option. I *don't* recommend this as it could potentially lead to corrupt data, but having said that, with SFS/02 I have a big 160gb partition working fine for 2 years now on my peg2 and another one of 200gb working equally fine on my A1200. I suggest you go the SFS + 98gb route though.

    @vulture

Thanks a lot for your reply!

Well, i have used the SFS/02 too, before, and that´s when my problems started. This was with an 40GB HD, before i installed the 250GB SATA HD.

I´ve got a new SATA to IDE adapter, and will try it, hope this improve things.

My main doubt right now, is that i don´t know in what situations the corruption occurs. As i use MOS 1.4., MOS 2.7 and AOS 4.1, any of them can be the responsible for that. So i´m trying too to use one of them only for some time, to see if i can reproduce the problem. But it´s difficult. It doesn´t seems to have a pattern.

Right now i´m using the 68k version on the RDB and it´s working, but sometimes i have the SFS error requester, saying the volume became invalid and has been locked.

One of the partitions i have in this same HD is a 80GB one, using SFS too, and i had the same errors in it too.

So i´m also wondering if anyone has tried the 68k version of PFS in Pegasos, and if it works? I know we already have MOS native version of PFS, but i want to use it on AOS too...

It's not released yet, isn't it?

    > but i want to use it on AOS too...

IIRC Piru intends to release one PFS version for MorphOS that is backwards compatibe with old m68k PFS, and only then release a new incompatible version (for MorphOS as well as OS3 I suppose) with new features added and certain limitations removed.

I'd propose mos native sfs/00 and aos native sfs/00 with <100gb partitions, not the 68k one. ie, I've installed/formatted mine with aos ppc sfs and mos works fine with it.

I tried PFS with AOS4 this afternoon. It didn´t work.

PFS direct-scsi version don´t complete formatting with pfsformat. With PFS "normal" version I could format a small partition (500MB), but with a big partition (80GB) it trashes the HD after a Grim Reaper. As the DS version is the suggested one for bigger partitions, and it doesn´t work, i gave it up.

I suspect it would work in MOS, but as i want a common work partition for AOS and MOS it will not work for me.

So i created a 89GB Work partition with AOS (also a "boot", a "aos" and a "mos" partitions) using the native SFS. Formatted and copied the backup files over. Still copying the work partition files tough, and will see what happens.

    So far, so good. :-)

I´ll report back my results as i finish the copy process, and make some tests.

Vulture, once again man, thanks a lot for all your help!

You might need to apply this patch beforehand. I also recommend you to read that thread (don't let you throw off by the "TD64 is a bug" nonsense proclaimed by some therein) as this posting suggests PFS3 should work on OS4.

Thank you too, Andreas! Thank you very much for your previous post, and this too!

I´ll take a look at this patch and the thread you mention as soon as i have some spare time. Probably tomorrow, and i´ll let you guys know my experience.
