I got myself some DVI --> HDMI cables today in order to upgrade from VGA. I also got a 3-way switch. I tried with my Windows PC first and it worked without a problem. Then I tried with MorphOS and all I got was a black screen (it used a DVI --> VGA adaptor before and has worked well so far). I guessed DVI doesn't work for some reason and tried to switch back to VGA.

Now, I can't get any screen except for 640x480 to work. No matter how I reboot, shut down, remove the power cables and change mossys:devs/monitors/radeon --> DVI_ENABLE YES or NO nothing works. I can't get MorphOS to understand what screens my monitor can handle anymore.

    Suggestions?

[EDIT] A couple of other oddities. The boot pic doesn't show on boot but the text does. Windows works fine with VGA switched back.

    I forgot. It's a G5 2,7 GHZ with a Radeon 9600 (XT I think).

You should first of all try to boot from a MorphOS CD and see if it works then.

I forgot to mention that too. I tried that as well, but it couldn't handle the bigger screen modes either. I worked before.

Im using an LG monitor with my Macpro connected to its DVI input and my Power Mac G4 MDD connected to its HDMI input with a DVI to HDMI cable with no trouble. I didnt do anything other than plug it in and boot my machine from the MOS install CD and let it install.

Im running at full resolution and its working as expected in other modes as well.

Forgot to mention that my MDD had an ATI 9600 XT in it from a Powermac G5 as well.

I didn't do anything except changing the cables. DVI showed a blank screen, and after that VGA can only show 640x480. That is the really weird part. MorphOS has to have saved this somewhere in the system, or removed something.

Did you at any point boot Mac OS X? If so, it might be worth a try to do a PRAM reset.

I had this prob before with a vga switch box. It's the DCC that fails. you got to adgust the monitor throug prefs.

Hi I was at the uni previously and I had to type in a hurry :P

Go to Prefs/Monitors and edit the monitor specification. You have to choose either the same type of your monitor or choose a similar one and edit individual values by youself (please cosult your monitor's manual).

Either way it's the DCC that fails 100%. Had the exact same behavior with a DVI<->VGA converter which was connected to a VGA splitter on a 9200.

Doesn't work. No matter what I choose and save, a reboot puts it back at "Monitor 31 KHz".

If I remember correctly I edited the monitor prefs straight after a clean setup (format/installation).

But you didn't get the automatic settings back? You had to do it manually from now on? This is bad news for me since I don't know where the manual is.

Yeap, regretfully the DCC failed permantly with the 9200->DVI<->VGA->VGA_SWITCHER->Monitor combo. The monitor couldn't be recognized and all I got was a forced 640x480 resolution.

Therefore I choose a monitor type similar of mine (I have a Samsung Syncmaster series) and it worked.

Additionally you can edit the values manually if the similar type of Monitor does not correspond to the one you have.

You can easily find your manual just by google (or in replacement docs www service).

Now that I come to think of it, I *think* that there was a second solution as well which I also experience and it was to connect directly to the monitor, format, setup, save new monitor settings (since DCC was working) and then install the converter. But I cannot remember for sure, it's a long time year since that happen and I solved it rather fast. Hmmm.. I am sure have created a similar type of thread with yours here in morphzone. Will try to perform a search.

I'm getting nowhere. I managed to get some other monitor settings to work but it's all way off.

Doesn't the 9600 XT support DVI?

Either way, this is my monitor: http://m.samsung.com/sg/consumer/pc-peripherals-printer/monitor/led-monitor/LS22A350HS/XS-spec

Try to change the port at the back (if you have 2xDVI) or try to delete MOSSYS:Libs/ddc.library and then reboot - might help.

    Sadly, they are not identical.

Tried deleting that. Sadly didn't help.

I tried a format of sys: and a complete reinstallation of MorphOS. Didn't help either.

    Anyone knows why?

Try a different monitor, monitor cable and also try another OS - eg: PPC Ubuntu or OS X.

It might even help to remove the gfx card and re-install it.
PPC assembly ain't so bad... ;)
