    General improvements?

    - Move MUI global settings from the desktop menu to the prefs panel (under User interface).
    - Allow user-configurable browser buttons in Ambient browser windows (configured a la Mimetypes).
    - Allow panel positions to be a bit more configurable (bottom-centre, top-centre, etc).
    - Create an additional 'window area' variable to allow resizing of full-screened windows to a default area smaller than the 'full screen', so windows are not obscuring (or be obscured by) panels, etc when maximised.

that's all that's in the front of my mind at the moment :-)

Support for Multi-core/multi-processor would be a "real" big upgrade.
but that would mean changing the fundamental OS core. not sure that makes sense as far as time put in and compatibility. maybe a library that would allow additional cores/cpus & Programmable GPU's to be used as some form of "slave" cpu for specific functions? IDK. just my $.02 as I have no idea if it would even be practical in regards to memory usage and bandwidth... etc.

I would agree with drivers, a proper joystick configuration plus method of utilizing additional cores.
The reason i say joystick is because that is what i have tried but i would imagine that it would be more indepth config options in general.

but that what i would like personally.

I second more drivers. I hate being "chained" to a switch wherever I go. I'd love to go to starbucks and show off MorphOS! SMP would be nice also.

I agree, I think you should be able to reach everything (setting-wise) from the prefs panel. And maybe those other "settings" could be merged together in some way? From recent posts here on MZ it seems like some new people easily gets confused by the current scheme.

Speaking of Network, I'd like to see a SW firewall รก la ZoneAlarm that can control network rights down at an application level.

-multicore support (something like what Krashan described, perhaps even some special threads without pointer based message passing that run in the Q-Box as separate tasks)
-Ambient window plugins to be able to have something like TortoiseCVS/SVN/GIT that adds a small image to icons.
-Accelerated Cairo (perhaps through an OpenGL based OpenVG implementation like Shiva)

    once it's ported to G5:
1.-Drivers running on QBox and ABox using some kind of wrapper for drivers (A generic gfx driver, sound driver, network driver... real stuff inside QBox)
2.-64bit version (incompatible with 32bits, supporting various GB of ram)
3.-Ability to launch various boxes (e.g. main 64 bit one running in parallel with a compatible 32bit box)
    4.-Communication between boxes
5.-Native port of QBox to X64, running hosted on top of Linux for example before it runs natively.
    6.-Port of ABox to X64
7.-Running full PowerPC ABox emulated on top of a PowerPC emulator for X64 (SheepShaver for example).
    8.-MorphOS release for X64.

Here's one off the top of my head.
Since the G5 supports 8GB of memory, how about using everything above 1.5 for the ramdisk?

Would the QBox running natively on x64 involve a port of the Quark kernel to x64 for the QBox to run on?

I do think accessing the screenbar settings is a bit obscure, esp for new users, and I'd probably merge that into the Ambient settings. Considering Ambient as a program, then it's logical that it's own settings and it's own MUI settings are available through it's own menus, in convention with other programs.

I'm not sure where else the 'System' Settings could go and still be obviously accessible.

They do look good! (And just after I'd finally got the current panels set up how I like them). :-)

Definitely better OpenGL support, shader support, R400 (and higher) video cards, AMP to aid in Abox performance, wireless, Bluetooth, SATAII (and maybe III), RAID arrays, amongst other things...

    Still pondering.

And of course, Qbox (with SMP).

That reminds me - complete deprecation of datatypes in favour of reggae with some kind of stub/wrapper such that all datatype aware programmes use reggae instead.
Is that possible? Hell it`s a daydream thread so why not...

The mental image of loading say...a 720p x264 with multiview gives me the goosebumps...

There's lot of interesting ideas on this post.

    For me,
-On a first time I think to a better way to manage MUI settings and Joystick management clearly separated from Poseidon.

-Then, a real Metamorphose to a newer and better hardware world. ARM or X86/X64 support, multiprocessing etc etc blabla blabla QBox blabla ;-)

    - move to X86 (no powerful desktop option for now on ARM) so there will be more users, more devs, more ressources. MorphOS suffers from being kept alive by only a handful of coders.

    - give up on the amiga legacy that doesn't make much sense today, break compatibilty for the sake of moving on (or provide integrated emulation for hardcore nostalgics). For retroamigans there's OS4...

Thankyou Tchecko for Hotborders 1.1 - this commodity does exactly what I wrote above - allows maximising to a pre-defined area (through the use of 'screen padding').
In addition it also enables quick resizing & tesselation of windows to 1/4 and 1/2 of the defined area.

This is a 'must have' utility imho, and it would be good to see it become part of the MorphOS distribution.

What would it take to open the Q-box in terms of cost and man hours?

Also i think we should switch to ARM.

We also should have an app store or some kind of download centre included as standard.
