    guys,

i'm rather interested in screenshots of MOS 3.0 now that it has been released, maybe a youtube video or two? obviously everyone right now is enjoying the new features, but how 'bout taking a screenshot or two for those of us without MOS-capable hardware (for the moment). ;-)

    thanks, guys! keep 'em coming....

vPDF looks quite nice. how performant is it? amiPDF on my SAM is brutally slow and when i tried aPDF on MOS at amiwest last year, it wasn't too speedy, either. is vPDF any better?

You can also use SGrab if you really like it.

Here you go, an old fashioned digital camera picture.

Depends on what "best" means to you. For instance, some people think that larger is better, so they should go for 17", while people with preference for a smaller notebook might prefer going for 15".

    > Do i need one with an ati video card?

    Yes, ATI Radeon 9700 specifically.

vpdf appears to be about as fast as apdf. But it renders all those pdfs correctly where apdf fails.
http://via.i-networx.de/docs/nwg_2009.pdf needs about 6s on my 1.5 GHz G4. apdf doesn't render it correctly, vpdf does.

    ;-)

What I find better in Apdf compared to VPDF is that the former offers fonts management (so I can use one and the same fonts installation for Apdf and Ghostscript) and can show document properties. Maybe I've just overlooked those features in VPDF, but if not, then I hope they will be included in a later release.

Nice article, well done. Probably should see it get put in MorphZone's LIBRARY section as well (below your 2.0 review).

Quick & dirty video of the video thumbnails in action here. (warning - 78MB filesize)

Slowed down somewhat by the use of Screen Recorder to make the video, but still damn smooth. There's only so much a 1.67GHz G4 can do... :)

Yeah, unfortunately I'm too busy until next week at least, but if somebody else wants to put it there it's fine :)

BTW. I also started Tips and Tricks page, but it's missing lots of stuff and it's just a very quick collection of random things without any order currently.

    Nice one. Some remarks nonetheless:

    1. "Amigas with PowerUP and WarpUP boards"

There's nothing like WarpUP boards. It's always just been the PowerUP boards by Phase5. They came with the PowerUP kernel. The WarpUP kernel was an alternative kernel by a 3rd party to run on those boards.

    2. "The main thing is that it now supports the PowerBook G4 as well, the 1.5 GHz model."

Actually, only one of the 5 supported models is a 1.5 GHz one, the other 4 being 1.67 GHz ones:

"Only the two latest revisions clocked at 1.67GHz are supported at the moment, which includes the models PowerBook5,6 to 5,9, both 15'' and 17'' screens. The 1.5GHz PowerBook5,6 will also work but be careful not to confuse it with PowerBook5,4 which may have almost identical specifications."
    http://www.morphos-team.net/hardware

"MorphOS will run on Apple PowerBook Aluminum with a 1.67GHz processor. Namely PowerBook5,6 (A1106), PowerBook5,7 (A1107), PowerBook5,8 (A1138) and PowerBook5,9 (A1139). The 1.5GHz A1106 model is also supported, but be sure not to confuse it with an unsupported A1095 model."
    http://www.morphos-team.net/faq

    3. "That really makes MorphOS the first NG Amiga OS to support portable computers."

    Ignoring AROS here? ;-)

    4. "Hyperion have been working on a version of OS4 for a netbook. I think that's been rumoured and announced for nearly a year now."

    8 months actually.

    https://morph.zone/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?forum=11&topic_id=7014&start=43

    5. "I think FryingPan you had to pay for and registrate before you can burn anything."

Actually, FryingPan has been released as open source almost one year ago, and unrestricted binaries have been made available for MorphOS as well:

    https://morph.zone/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?topic_id=7971&forum=9
    http://amigacommunity.free.fr/phpBB/viewtopic.php?topic=156&forum=2

    6. "VPDF, which is very cool. The operating system has now got native PDF support. Before, we had a tool called Apdf, that most MorphOS users had installed. [...] It's quite nice to finally have something built into the OS."

Actually, Apdf is MorphOS-native as well, and it has been part of MorphOS 1.x and of all MorphOS 2.x releases. And on top of that, it still comes with MorphOS 3.0 as well.

    http://www.google.com/search?q=site:morphos-team.net+apdf

    7. "There's also been updates to EXT and SFS file formats as well. They're a lot quicker."

Really? I can't read any speed improvements from the release notes:

    "Ext3 filesystem
    - Improved disk inserted/removed handling.
    - Fixed timestamps.
    [...]
    SFS filesystem
    - Fixed handling of delayed notifications.
    - Fixed seeking in files larger than 2GiB.
    "
    http://www.morphos-team.net/releasenotes/3.0

    8. "Warp3D has been updated as well I believe. [...] There're a lot of people in the community talking about this."

While it's true that the Warp3D wrapper of MorphOS has been updated...

    "Libs/Warp3D.library
    Libs/Warp3DPPC.library
    - Added support for W3D_R8G8B8A8 texture format.
    "
    http://www.morphos-team.net/releasenotes/3.0

...I've yet to see anybody talk about this.

    9. "People have been running benchmarks on games like Quake 3 and reported anything from 40% to 400% speed increases."

WTF? Where're you getting those numbers from? What's been reported right here on MorphZone:

"With MorphOS 3.0 using the same settings best results I got is 60,4 FPS on 1,83 GHz Mini and 54,5 on 1,5GHz Mac Mini which is 22,27% and 20,31% faster than in 2.7. As I said before best speedup is noticable in 16 bit modes where 3.0 is faster 40-50%."
    https://morph.zone/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?forum=9&topic_id=8508&start=58

    10. "The traditional Amiga shell has been upgraded, MUICON it's called now."

I think that's due to Pack Ultimate installation. The standard command line of MorphOS 3.0 is still the "old" shell.

Err... there have been improved Shell (compared to standard Shell in Workbench 3.1) since MorphOS 1.0 release (so called 'emmcon'). New muicon-handler was added to release 2.0.
