I know these are unfair questions and that they go beyond the bounds of MorphZone etiquette, but I'm curious about a few things.
When will 2.8 be ready for release? Will it feature both Powerbook and G5 support, or only the former?
And which new video drivers will be available?

I know these questions aren't fair to ask, but I'm about to assemble my first G5, and the suspense is killing me.

Are you honestly expecting an answer here? :) Neither Powerbook nor G5 support were announced on http://morphos-team.net. The G5 isn't even really usable yet so it might take years until support for it is released - if at all.

It's been said many times already, but let me say this again: do not buy hardware with Morphos in mind unless support for it is officially announced on morphos-team.net!

So even if we ignore new hardware (although I am expecting hoping for Powerbook support this year) what new features/bug fixes could we expect?

I don't want to sound like too much of a fan boy here, but there's nothing that's obviously wrong with 2.7..

Have you ever announce that some HW will be supported on your official site? I'm with MorphOS for a 2 years now and I haven't seen anything like that but meaby in past?

Actually, I had my G4 Powermac purchased and completely outfitted before the "official" announcement. Nec USB card, Soundclaster Live , Radeon 9200 all fully functional in my Quicksilver.
And its not like you guys haven't already told us which G5 and Powerbook models would be supported.
I just wish 11,2 G5s were to be supported as well. I could get a good buy on one of those right now.

Jim, to be honest I did the same with Mac Mini and Powermac and actually with PowerBook, everything was ready to go before MorphOS releases ;) Kind of insane probably but well :)

Yes, well I didn't want to piss the guys off, but we've already got a good idea of what is likely to be supported. I was just fishing for some more information.
I can be patient and wait.

    Wait! Thought of one!
A button to press to get the time off the internets, instead if using the cli command C/SetClockNTP, (if only because I can never remember thelast 3 letters and always have to check in the c: folder!)

Did they ever get read/write to HFS+ working? Or is still read only?

It's easy to make your own button.. it's "amiga" you know ;) For example simple script to launch from panel or add own pulldown menu entry for it.

I myself like to launch that command automatically in boot. For example like this:

make sys:s/network-startup file which contain these lines:

    execute MOSSYS:s/network-startup
    run DETACH MOSSYS:c/Setclockntp save

There's tab completion option for commands too, you know. I don't remember if it's default or my setting, but when I hit ctrl-tab it completes the commands in shell. Check Hotkey settings in MUIConsole Prefs.. there's "Complete command" function.

I know all most of that. *

But I still want a nice friendly button that gets the correct time off the internet in the system settings.

*Didn't know about ctrl+tab, that's great thanks! That could do with adding to the 'tip of the day'

Man! Didn't expect such a sh*t storm over this. I'll just look for a Powerbook and maybe a 9700/9800 for my Powermac.
I'm perfectly happy with what I have, but I wasn't the one that leaked the G5 screen shots. If it never happens, so be it.

This is what was said in November 2010 by the MorphOS Team. So far, I didn't stumble upon any statement that would indicate any change of that plan.

Maybe a new dock system in Ambient? And how about that mouse-over icon preview of video files that was hinted long ago? :-)

As of MorphOS 2.7 it's still read only.

Thanks for reminding me of that thread Andreas. Looks like I've got plenty of time to dig up an R300 (and I may never see support for the R400 I've got now).

But we have seen screen shots of more than one G5. I was hoping for a more positive statement then "it might never happen".

Recently there was a screenshot of an iMac G5 2.1 GHz running MorphOS. Highly intersting maschine: Single core, low price (it is that low that I actually consider to buy one as OS X maschine, they gor for about 300 EUR and are not too slow) and - big surprise for a G5 - rather energy efficient. These maschines have do not have a too big energy uptake, about 70W at normal operation *with* display, that's pretty much the same range as my Mac mini G4 plus the (better) external monitor.
All in all a perfect match for Morphos, But I don't expect a port soon. But IMHO after the powerbook the most interesting ppc computer out there. Hope the team continues to work on that maschine.
I am quite happy with current state of the OS and am patiently enough to wait for the Powerbook port and later eventually the G5 things. While patient I *expect* the powerbook release within this year though. But I haven't spend money on getting one yet and will probably do so earliest the day support for these maschines is officially announced.

What's the GPU in the iMac?

    @Jim

There are several GPUs used in the various iMac G5 versions, the first versions (1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 GHz) are using a Geforce FX5200 GPU (so they are not interesting for MorphOS), whereas the later Ambient Light Sensor versions (1.8 and 2.0 Ghz) are using a Radeon 9600 GPU (at the moment the most interesting versions for MorphOS). The last iMac G5 versions with an iSight camera (1.9 and 2.1 GHz) are using a Radeon X600. All iMac G5 versions were available as 17" or 20".

    I don't think there's a 2.0 GHz version of the first iMac G5.

Thanks for that hint, my fault. They are/were available with 1,6Ghz (17" only) and 1,8Ghz (17" and 20").
