Ok guys starting this thread about the cool future developments of Morphos 2.7 and 2.8.

My favorite rumours (since its not "official" news on morphos team site) are:

    1. Morphos booting on G5 Mac

    2. Return to Castle Wolfenstein 3d release is imminent

    3. Morphos 2.7 possible for Father Christmas? :pint:

    4. Morphos for Powerbook G4 sooner than expected?

    5. Possible NEW 3d drivers for Radeon R300 range of boards! :(o):

Please add to this list and make comments. Thanks

Do NOT hope for G5 and Powerbook support in MorphOS 2.7
As told many times the 2,7 will be focused on PowerMacsG4 and it will give improved stability and support to these computers. Powerbook support and new 3D drivers should arrive later (let's hope 2.8..) and G5 support even later (2.9? 3.0?). This is was I was told.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein 3d and 2.7 releases should be imminent instead.

If I am wrong please correct me.

Castle Wolfenstein 3D is already running! It had been shown in Bad Bramstedt at the Amiga Meeting, and I've tried it on my very own Pegasos II (under MorphOS 2.6). The G5 version had also been showen, it is booting, but far from ready. Do not expect it too soon, for sure not with 2.7 and very unlickely with 2.8. The powerbook G4 version is far more developed, but not finished yet. I don't expect it for 2.7, as the MorphOS team prefers to publish perfect (or at least good working) software. The chance is good that we will see it with 2.8. (My guess, of course.)
I don't expect 2.7 with "father christmas", but with "Santa Claus" (in Germany at December 6th). ;-)

From what was said in Bad Bramstedt I conclude that PowerBook G4 support will come not until *after* MorphOS 2.8 release.

Nope, not until way after 2.8.

    > 3. Morphos 2.7 possible for Father Christmas?

    Yes, even earlier.

    > 4. Morphos for Powerbook G4 sooner than expected?

Nope, it seems that most users are expecting it sooner (2.8) than it's said to come (after 2.8).

    > 5. Possible NEW 3d drivers for Radeon R300 range of boards!

Nope, probably not until after 2.8. PowerBook G4 supporting release is said to depend on that.

There is no need for that kind of words mate. Most of us are just average users and we have to wait much longer that devemopment team for some new stuff.

Does anyone know if 2.7 is going to address the issue with Power Mac's with 7450 cpu's?.

    Just wondering! ;)

I was assuming that was one of the major issues to fix, but I don't have a source.

Here's my hope for 2.8, not just Powerbook support with R300 3D acceleration, but R400 support as well!

As said, I believe that R300 3D acceleration was said to come not until after MorphOS 2.8. That would mean that also PowerBook G4 support would only come after 2.8.

u dont really ask that pampers or? ok. ill try to explain it short. its no problem to wait for wolfenstein, its no problem that devs own pre versions themselves, they deserve it for their work. the mos community is small compared to others. so why there are average users wich get wolfenstein and show how they use with screens in different forums and other average users wich ask for that versions, but get statements like "sorry but there is no server to upload to". the game seems ready to use, also if its not 100% finished. a lot of times were used to use none 100% finished software....or?

so the point is fairness in a small community like that. this behaviour with wolfenstein is NOT fair. the fact that other average users got it and some not, leads to frustration. especially when other average users show screens from thier machines and report how well its working. if that wouldnt be there would be no problem. but u cant control the average, so its not their fault to post and feeling better than others wich dont got it.

i personally dont care, wolfenstein, i can play it on my 360. not wolfenstein is the problem. the problem is how it is handled and that it leads to frustration and feeling out of a community wich lifes of its members. i care the community., like every other member should do. thats why i try to be honest and write my statement to this. perhaps to much. at the moment i feel like that bad that opend his dirty mouth, but i cant believe others are not thinking the same. i dont like to lick some a**es . is that needed here? do i miss something? perhaps its just my point of view. tell me if im wrong

Actually, are we expecting any new features for 2.7, or will it just be PowerMac bug fixes?

(Not that there's anything wrong with that, etc etc.)

By the end of the week then? :-?

In the end, we get what we get when they're considered ready for release. I'm quite happy with what I've got. I mean I am looking forward to R300 graphics and the reintroduction of SATA and SCSI controller support, but I still exploring what I've already been given.
Patience guys, you know how little the developers like to be rushed.

You know what Manga? I've got much more stuff in my real life to be pissed off about. In my hobby like MorphOS I'm trying to avoid stress.

God damn I even bought BigFoot a pizza, because I though it's quite funny way of donation. And what? Am I pissed off because I didn't get the port yet? Not really.

But I understand your point of view. You are pissed, I'm not.

    Hi Andreas,

From what was said in Bad Bramstedt I conclude that PowerBook G4 support will come not until *after* MorphOS 2.8 release.

    https://morph.zone/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?topic_id=7464&forum=11&post_id=78798#78798

More precisely, what was said that really convinced you this is the case, so much that you repeated this point half a dozen of times or so today? Honest question, as I might have missed it!
I was in Bad Bramstedt, and while I don't understand German, I did speak with pega-1 for quite some time. And while it is true he never committed to a MorphOS 2.8 release, I got the impression that, if everythig goes well, 2.8 should be the version that will include the new gfx drivers. And since the gfx drivers are basically the reason holding back the PowerBook release, that one might come together as well. In fact this is what I gathered and more or less reported from the meeting, and I also asked for corrections in case I wrote/understood something wrong. Granted, you haven't been corrected as well, but doing so would mean to publically commit for a 2.8 release - something not really in the MorphOS team style.
So, I am still inclined to think that, while as usual no release dates are given and no public roadmaps are available, we might be in for some pleasant surprises in 2.8. Then, of course, better not to put too much hopes in it, but probably it's still too early to exclude any possibility as you seem to have been doing lately. ;-)
On the other hand we all know the MorphOS team encourages us to enjoy what is here now and not wait for future developments whose timeframe is really uncertain. This is all fine and dandy with me, and it's what I am actually doing. It's only that I don't think I'll get a fourth licence before the PowerBook G4 support is released, and I don't think I am not supporting MorphOS enough for this reason! :-P

    Kind regards,
    Andrea
