A little bird told me it has built in support for XToast technology.

Capable of eight concurrent real-time bread roasts with shared toaster resistor, which is 8 times more than any other non XToast capable OS.

XToast gives MorphOS a very flexible way of toast your bread, even in customizable way, because you can totast the bread plain, with a smiley or even a Teddy Bear face on it. MorphOS manages?em all.

XToast boosts MorphOS to a whole new level.

BTW, the usb toaster is not included with the license.

I've heard it will support SMP, on dual (or more) cores. Then you will be able to put two MorphOS-capable machines on your desk, and then run MorphOS on *BOTH*, simultaneously. Imagine not only two CPU cores, but two whole machines running MorphOS. What great possibilities this will open!

(Note: yes, this feature is available right now, in 2.4, but considered as BETA. I've heard starting from 2.5, it will go out of beta, and enter gamma. Or delta. Or omega. Pick your favourite greek letter.)

    ;-)

I heard that 2.5 is going to kick AmigaOS' ass. Oh I forgot that MorphOS already does :D

Setup volume would be really nice.

x86 is, sadly, the way to go if there is any pretention of achieveing mainstream.

MacMini support resulted with a bump of users.

    PowerMac will result with another.

But x86 support would be a completely different ball game... No more majority of enthusiasts and hackers, expect a spew of people who write like me on this forum! :-) But are less polite and patient ;-)

Are you saying that is possible to run morphos on a homemade cluster of 5 mac minis for example???. That would be an enormous amount of cpu power. Is already in 2.4 as you says???
Interesting to know. Tell us more :)

    @mihailod

Amiga flavours can't run apps with different endianness in the same memory space and most of amiga apps are compiled big endian and there's no possibility of recompiling. You could recompile a few apps to use little endian but you would probably lose compatibility with 680x0 and PPC so keep in mind your sweet dreams may turn into something quite insipid. No bigendian cpu means no 680x0 apps.

I don't know why some people is so naive thinking that amiga like OSes would be successful on x86 just because it runs on x86. Most of people couldn't stand lack of memory protection, multiuser and lack of java, apps... who cares about Joe User? I don't. I enjoy my hobby and that's all. Running on x86 would bring incompatibility but wouldn't bring memory protection or apps.

Crumb, I understood this to be a tongue-in-cheek thread... Don't take my post seriously :-)

I am aware of deep technical and phylosophical implications of x86 ;-)

Also, you might not care about the Joe User (honestly, me neither!) but the people who attempt to make a living out of this might... That's all...

Exactly Crumb, X86 brings NO benefits, not now, not ever as long as MOS is commercial, Joe user will buy windows as always (stupid B@sterds) Anyways, here is my hopes:

    SMP for PMAC G4
    Preliminary memory protection
    E-UAE integration better
Beta builds availability (paid of course, w/ upgrade discount. I'm sure the team uses some CVS/SVN system?)
    My Macs:
    Powerbook G4 ALU 1.5GHZ 15" 1.5GB OSX.5.8
    Powermac G4 MDD 1.5GHZ OSX.5.8 MOS2.7

Want a part for a Mac? Let me know, I'll see what I can do.

Amithlon is amazing, questions and help I can provide.

We already provide beta builds to the selected members of the community: that is people working on the translations and software developers. There are several reasons why we wouldn't want more people involved, for instance: most users simply do not know how to provide us with useful bug reports and would only waste our time, we don't want the OS to be perceived by people through the beta builds which often contains bugs or things that are not going to end up in a release and finally we usually want to keep infos about upcoming features to ourselves before the release, since this for example gives us the flexibility to delay things.

    I think 2.5 comes with a world domination module based a new narrator.device "...Must...dominate...the...worrrld! Must...dominate.... "

But what happened to the video thumbnail preview in Ambient shown ages ago? Are the classes/datatypes/Reggaemodules (or whatever caused the dealy) of that ready now? I think that would be a nice thing and help to make the world domination module even more convincing.

Yeah ok enough with the rumors. Give it to the people, everyone is happy with their OS4 update. I still want to play with the new MorphOS on my PowerMac G4. :) :)

This feature was "removed" because I didn't have time (and still don't) to update the libraries involved (and thus updating the API (which was necessary before a general release, and would break all (internally) existing applications)); basically these libraries were removed from the ISO build until further notice, and are unlikely to reappear for any future 2.x release (unless someone else feels like continuing my work).

I think an important issue now is to fully suport Apple HW features.

So about my Mini I keep moaning:
    1) wifi
    2) volume control
    3) bluetooth maybe
    4) v.92 modem maybe
    5) more apple keyboards / mice support

If it is planned on new Apple HW, there we go again, to support Apple stuff.

I think it is as much important as system's new features.

    [ Edited by DiskDoctor on 2010/1/18 12:15 ]
Was: Mac Mini PPC running MorphOS 2.4
Now: Amiga Forever 2010 with AmiKit and AmigaSYS
Not used: Icaros Desktop 1.2 (reason: no wifi)
    Planned soon: an OS4 system
Shortly then: a MOS notebook (wifi is a must-have)

    1. Finish/simplify networking.
    2. Fix 4 gig file size limitation.
    3. Finish media center.
    4. Port to VIC20. :).

    Hopefully 3 out of 4 won't be bad... :)...

WiFi ? Not before laptops support.
    Bluetooth: Highly unlikely to happen.
Modem: LOL, that was a funny one. Won't happen.

    >Fix 4 gig file size limitation.

There's no such limitation in the system. You can use >4GB files with Ext2, NTFS, ... Only older filesystems like FFS or SFS have this limit.

    @Cisc

I've actually added the feature in thumbnails.library without the need for these shared libraries, since (which also lets several applications use it). That said, the feature will have to be moved to a sublib instead of thumbnails.library to be more modular (I'm mostly thinking about efika users that wouldn't want to waste several MB for that :)).
