Here's a small video I made of current MorphOS development version (so called "3.0") on PowerBook G4:
    PowerBook-G4-MorphOS-3-newyear-teaser.avi

    This is on PowerBook G4 rev e, 7447B (or 7448, not sure which one) @ 1.67GHz, 2GB DDR2 RAM, 250GB HDD, DVD-RW, Radeon 9700M 128MB.

As always, the quality of the video could be better... :-)

    Happy New Year 2010 everyone!

Well for that you might need to use a 3rd party boot script or modify the yaboot OF boot script (that's what I did with my PB for the tripleboot).

    Thanks Piru

I have vlc installed now. the video plays nicely. i'm glad to hear about modifiying the yaboot script as I have osx 10.5 and linux atm.

Wow Morphos looks nice and fast on the laptop.. i'm glad I kept my powerbook as there is a lot of incentive for me to upgrade to intel as the new os and a lot of apps like picasa, silverlight, etc are INtel only... boooooo

btw are the trackpad drivers working?

They are. In making of this video I used a wireless USB mouse, however: It'd be a bit hard to use the pad while recording the screen. :-)

    Very exciting news Piru!

I hope it is close to being ready for a release. This could be a big plus for getting new MorphOS users and bringing back some of the 1.4 users that have become disenchanted since 2.0 was released.

I don't know if I should spend the money to get my 1GHz Titanium PowerBook fixed, or if I should shop for a 1.67GHz PowerBook instead?

A real good work, nice and fluid apps, real enjoyable.

At the moment the focus is on the aluminium G4 PowerBooks, starting from revision B (since all Rev-A models had nVidia cards). However, I strongly urge everyone not to spend money on any laptops with MorphOS in mind until an official announcement on our website appears.

Great news! Good job! Thank you!

Could you tell us some details about MorphOS 3.0 features? On the movie we can see only software (OWB, AmIRC and the demo). There no MOS 3 features. :( It could be for example MorphOS 2.5 on PowerBook. ;)

    Happy New MOS-Year!

3.0 is just something we call the development MorphOS branch. If/when we release the 3.0 the development branch will likely be called 4.0 ;-)

The biggest difference is that it runs on more hardware than 2.4. It does have some experimental features included which are not in the current 2.x, but for the most part it is very similar to what you have with 2.4 ATM.

Please note that we're still far from full laptop support, there are some very important laptop support functionality missing (it would be a bit nasty not to know your battery load status, or not being able to adjust the display backlight level...). These things will need some work, and even more testing. It doesn't help that there are ton of different revisions of these laptops, too.

So there's still quite a bit of work ahead of us. As soon as we're happy with the laptop support we will announce it officially (I won't be guessing when that might happen).

There have been some questions as to whether this somehow affects the already announced PowerMAC support or progress. It does not.

    Thank you for the answer.

I see. MOS version for laptop is a big-work. So... we are wainting for the version and looking for PowerBooks on eBay/Allegro... :)

Thank you for the New Year gift! :)

    @Piru

Happy New Year matey, hope things are going well for you in the land of pony trekking.

I only see a 3-second video - a flash of blue screen, then an openfirmware output stating "Booting MorphOS". Am I missing something? (Using XP + Firefox)

[EDIT: Yes, I am missing something - several thousand brain cells. They were working yesterday... Am now downloading the 35MB file]

I'm really looking forward to a MorphOS laptop, and may even give away my last x86 machine (laptop) once it is released. :-)

    All the best for 2010.

    Rich

    Dude,

That has got me drooling with anticipation (although that could be due to the hangover).

I can't wait to get this and start showing it off to my old schoolmates who used to be into the amiga scene. I can pretty much guarantee getting at least one convert (and license sale), possibly two of three, without even breaking a sweat.

Good choice of music for the teaser too ! :-D

Well its quite impressive the touchpad support since iirc on some ppc ubuntu forums trackpad support is a problem..

I'm glad i've got a radeon 9600 in my laptop! Though judging from the release schedule it wont be for months yet it will be released..

It's 7447B. The 7448 was never used by Apple. It went into volume production after the last PowerBook hit the market.

That label has been shown in MorphOS dev videos since the release of 2.0 at least.
