I followed the excellent guide on the library page on how to keep an existing OSX installation. (Have no DVD)

The guide says to use Ubuntu to partition/ slice the disk. But Ubuntu 9.4 does not recognize the file format of the existing partition. (should be HFS+) but it is unkown and therefor cannot slice the disk.

Tried to install some alternative Ubuntu PPC versions - but I couldn't get any of them to launch on live CD.

I use a MacMini 1.5. Anyone knows a working Ubuntu version or any other solution on how to slice up the disk without destroying the OSX installation. I plan to leave some 20-25GB for OSX and the rest for MorphOS.

Help is appriciated. First one helping me is declared AWESOME :-)

Can also be done by booting from OS10.5 (Leopard) DVD.

I recently used http://torvi.atm.tut.fi/ubuntu-dvd/12.04/release/ubuntu-12.04-desktop-powerpc.iso to partition for dual booting with MorphOS. I remember some bits
of the GUI in Gparted was a bit different from the dual boot guide
(I think some alignment gadget was named differently) but it all worked
    well in the end.

Hmm. I dont have any OSX dvd so that is a dead end.

I actually downloaded 12.04, but the live CD booting failed on my mac mini. Ended up with various hardware complaints in ubuntu and a freezed black image with ubuntu tech talk.

Ubuntu 9.4 booted all the way, but as said initially the file format cannot be recognized in the partition editor.....

:-( puzzled on what to do here....

I took away the journal type in terminal of OSX. This made HFS+ visable in Ubuntu Gparted, but sadly it was still not possible to resize, it seems locked where it is. :-(

The better solution would be to get an OS X dvd - where's your nearest linux club? A somewhat extreme option is to get an external 2.5" IDE to firewire enclosure for your mini's current internal drive and replace the internal drive with a new one for other OSes. Maybe you could get an IDE SSD while you're at it.
PPC assembly ain't so bad... ;)
