For x86 platforms there are also good choices of fast OSes, like BeOS. Today I just discovered SkyOS.

Anyone there have tried it? I'll try it on my crusoe (fujitsu laptop). :-)

I tried it on my laptop, it turned out to be very slow (and unstabile)

Shouldn't really be THAT slow, as it's 300MHz laptop and got 96MB of memory...

Well, might be it had problems with hardware or something...

(of course I have high hopes that it will become better later)

At least it got proper 800x600 (max) truecolor screenmode straight away, when Windows 98 SE insists on having 640x480 with 16 colours, EVEN if I installed correct drivers (It would install "General PCI gfx card" and "Normal display" on startup)

But for some reason, after 10th reboot after installing correct drivers (That weren't added to system database) it installed them on startup (by accident? Only reason I can think of)

damn... Even Dosqube could get 800x600 easier than windows :-D

I played with an earlier version, which did have some stability problems. It's still a pretty nice OS. I'm gonna DL 5 when it's released and do some more playing.
