This just might be my copy of DirOPUS4-PPC, but......
I normally dearchive .lha files to the ramdisk then copy from there.
When I do this I cannot copy things back out of ram to another drive.
    Only the folder name copies.
I checked the button and made sure recursive was on.
I can copy from any drive to the ramdisk and I am fine, all subfolders and files copy.
When I try to copy back from the ramdisk to any drive only the folder names copy.
Is there anything new about the ramdisk in 3.1?
I will rebuild diropus 4ppc from scratch if I have to but that is a pain as the Config panel is still 68k code and crashes way too much to edit my old config file I am using.
I don't really want to give up my buttons.

    Ram Disk has not changed.
    1 + 1 = 3 with very large values of 1

I don't like Dopus5 or Dopus5.5... or not completely 5.6 either, but 5.82 I wouldn't change to anything :) Either you haven't tried the most recent version or you haven't tried it long enough to get addicted. I was hardcore dopus4 man too.. until 98 when I finally made half forced test for Magellan2 :) And after a month I didn't want to go back... and after a year I couldn't use anything else anymore. Still using 5.82 for the most of daily stuff ;)

I didn't like the fact that Dopus 5 took over the desktop.
Not sure how to handle that with Ambient.
As long as I could take my buttons with me....
Do they still sell Magellan 2?

That's always been just an option. I've been running DOpus 5 in parallel to Ambient on MorphOS for a decade now without any problem, and I had it running in parallel to Workbench on OS3.x for many years before.

    > Not sure how to handle that with Ambient.

At least in the MorphOS pre-2.x days it was possible to boot into DOpus 5 or Workbench instead of Ambient (instructions on how to do this can be found right here on MorphZone). I haven't tried since, though.

    No.

You can run it on its own screen too, as said. Then you can config it even look like DOpus4 with two views etc... it's so fully configurable program.
But all those will cut some extra features compared to full use as desktop replacement. I just can't see why wouldn't you use it as desktop replacement on OS3.x, because you still can have icons and windows just as on original WB, but you'd have lots of extra with it in use too and no need to jump between screens.

With Ambient it isn't that useful to run it as complete replacement (if you like Ambient features too), but there are couple little programs, which allow to run it on Ambient screen pretty much like "half replacement" mode. On my setup I get Ambient device lister by double clicking desktop with left mouse button and Magellan2 lister by middle clicking the desktop. So, they coexist just fine and I can use whichever I want in every situation.

I also use Magellan2's startmenus (button banks would work too) on Ambient screen instead of any other dock system, global hotkeys for launching all kinds of programs from keyboard and scripts for startup launching for example. So, you can use Magellan2's features pretty nicely to extend the Ambient. Of course you can't use every aspect either like icon positioning and couple of other things, but that's quite minor thing imho.

Here are couple of tips for setting up Magellan2 with Ambient. They're still valid with current MorphOS versions... except font requester hasn't hanged since 2.0 anymore ;)

    thanks

    I have a pirated copy of dopus5 mg2.
Hoping someone will at least compile the open source mg2 in 68k for me though,
I did not know mg2 had a way to look like dopus4 with the dual window mode.
That would let me cross over with little effort.
