OK. Thnas to the help of some of the members in the forum, I am ready to take the plunge and join the MorphOS commmunity.

I have a Mac Mini G4 1.5 GHZ, with 80GB HDD and wireless card. Will this system config. work?

If yes, what do I do next? Where can I buy and download the software? Any other tips are welcome. Thanks in advance for any help given. :-)

    Yes, except for the WiFi.

    > Where can I buy and download the software?

    Download:
    http://www.morphos-team.net/downloads

    Buy:
"Boot MorphOS and launch the included RegTool application (in the Tools drawer). Fill out the form and register. You will receive a validation email and after a successful validation, an email with PayPal link."

An Ethernet cable from your Mac mini to your router, modem or WiFi bridge.

Congratulations to your Mini G4 1.5GHz. I have one of those as well, and the best thing about them is the 64MB VideoRam (if it is a "true" 1.5GHz and not an overclocked 1.42 machine). This is an excellent machine IMHO for MorphOS. Very small (not expandable though), very silent, and very powerful for a G4 system. I think the Mini is great! :-)

It will work perfectly out of the box, with wired Interent. WiFi is not supported yet, maybe in the future.

Next step is downloading and trying the full MorphOS 3.0 software. This is free, but after running the OS for about 30 minutes, things will slow down to an unbearable level, unless you have registered and payed the fee of course. Then you receive a key file that unlocks that annoying demo limitation. Luckily for you, the price for Mini registrations was recently reduced to only €79, and registration gets tied to that particular hardware only, not you as a user. The keyfile gets hardcoded to the machine from which you send the registration request. Good to know. If you sell he computer, MorphOS registration follows with it, so make sure to charge money for that too! ;-)

Anyway, you download the OS it here:

    http://morphos-team.net/downloads

    Installations guides are here: http://morphos-team.net/installation

If you want to run MacOS and MorphOS on the same machine, and dual boot in between them, then you will have to take some special steps, how to do this can be found in this guide:

    http://library.morph.zone/Dual-boot_MorphOS_and_MacOS_X_on_a_Mac_Mini_G4

Welcome BTW, and Good luck, and welcome back if you have any questions! :-)
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :-)
MorphOS NG will be AROS done right! :-)

Sorry, but would a USB Linksys Wireless G 2.4 GHZ network adapter do the trick?

No, a USB network adapter won't cut it. You need to have your Mac mini's Ethernet port connected, as I said.

OK, I understand. Thanks. Will I need any specific drivers? I will connect directly to my router.

No, that's the beauty of Ethernet.

    That should work.

I know my questions will sound strange and silly, but I have never been a power Mac user, just a regular PC and Amiga user. Is there any other way to install the OS beside having to burn a CD/DVD? Can I create an ISO image and install from there? Even stupider question: Can download in my laptop PC (being faster), burn the CD/DVD in the laptop and the insert in the Mac Mini for installation?
I really need to take baby steps before I can stand on my own, so thank you in advance for any help.

Yes, this will work just fine.

That's not true, in as much as you make it sound like there's a universal driver for all Ethernet ports. MorphOS is supplied with a driver for the Mac Mini's Ethernet port (so yes, it will work), but each Ethernet chipset needs a specific driver just like each wireless chipset does.

You're right and I was too sloppy with my wording. Thanks for correction.
What I meant so say is that with Ethernet you're done with the driver for the Ethernet controller, whereas with a USB network adapter (which is what he proposed right before) you need a driver for the USB chipset (that comes with MorphOS just like the Ethernet driver) and *on top of that* a driver for the specific WiFi chipset inside the USB network adapter. So with Ethernet you need a driver less compared to WiFi via USB.
But you're right that compared to support for the built-in WiFi, the only difference of Ethernet is that the driver has already been written for MorphOS.

    amigadave,
I'm not quite there yet. This is what I have done so far: I got myself a nice Mac Mini G4, 1.5 GHz, 64 VRAM, 120 HDD, combo drive, wireless card, wi-fi and bluetooth.
I downloaded MorphOS 3.0, but I haven't burn it in the CD yet for installation. I've been trying to get familiar with the Mac Mini first, in case it becomes necessary during installation of MorphOS. I'm planning to do during this week. I will be posting here my progress to benefit of the excellent support I have received so far.
