I did just get home from seeing the Prometheus movie, the "prequel" to the Alien movies. I had great expectations, but I must say - why do most of these new 3D movies with budgets comparable as a smaller country's GNP suck so hard? Including this one! It's like the CG effects gets all the focus from the director, completely shadowing any ambitions of story, acting and general atmosphere. Shallow and hollow, that's my review. Alien 1 was made 1979 and it was so much better. Acting, story, directing, everything rock solid. And Alien 2 had the oddity among movies of a sequel actually being better than the first movie (and then it went down-hill).

I'm dreading to see Ridley Scott destroying the Bladerunner legacy as his next project, with all focus upon some shallow CG 3D crap as the norm seems to be today...

I went to see this one today also and I was also disappointed. Expected so much more. Even the 3d was lame, and the roadtripping between spaceships was a bore. I can't give more than 5.5/10.

Although I don't agree that Alien2 was better than the original Alien, or Alien3 & Alien Resurrection, I do agree that too many movies now use CG effects & gimmicks and 3D to try to hide how terrible the actual movie content and acting are.

I won't watch 3D movies any longer, unless they get to a point where they are not going to offer the same movie in 2D. If/when that happens, I may just have to wait until those movies are shown on DirectTV to watch them. The way 3D is being done now sucks.

Too bad Prometheus sucks as the previews made it look really interesting and I was looking forward to seeing it.

I have this theory about how ageing effects taste...

Neural paths degrade and take away subtlety. A polite, whimsical sense of humour becomes crude, patience for intricacy is exhausted. Simplicity in everything becomes the norm.

The senses also degrade and this compounds the effect. An ever brighter, more garish choice of colour is required to fire the paths that represent preferences for fashion and decoration. Application of perfumes or other scents reach fire hazard proportions. More sugar, salt, butter etc is required to enjoy the same food - which is still thought of as flavourless compared to 'how it used to be'.

Or maybe the elderly have secretly conspired to appal younger generations. Either way, it seems that Scott has joined Lucas in the ranks of geriatric film makers.

Pity to hear that film is rather disappointing. But is it really bad/poor/average or is it only not fulfilling the huge expectations? I will probably watch that movie anyway (still 2 months until it hits the movies over here), but it seems wise to keep expectations rather low. Will probably see it 2d anyway (read: at home), since the way to the movie is diffucult when you have a baby at home...

And I really hope Ridley Scott leaves Baderunner untouched. It's still my all time fav movie and should stay as it is. Prequel and sequel to that should belong to watcher's fantasy exclusively IMHO.

It strikes me now, that if you have seen the previews, you have kind of seen the movie already.

Indeed I had high expectations. Previews looks really cool, and Ridley Scott has delivered in the past. But while the first Alien films had this creeping horror over it, you know, when you know there is danger somewhere in the dark tunnels but you don't know where, suggestive, then this movie focus more to show off "cool 3D stuff", some fighting scenes, etc. The characters has no personality, some are overacting, some are underacting, but either way the acting doesn't feel connected to the rather thin story. It never got really scary or even creepy, and as hooligan said, big parts were even boring. It's not a terribly lousy movie, but it's *very* far from what I expected.

Acutally, I think it's kind of established that he won't, there are lots of rumors around it, and in these cases there usually are some truth behind the saying "where there is smoke, there is fire". Heck, maybe it will even feature Harrison Ford (probably with an old people's walker because of old age ;-)). Actually, having Harrison Ford on board might give some hope to the project, but I think the movie should be left alone. It's epic! It can not be topped!

Fassbender as David the robot made the best role, that tells something :)

TMHG, btw, did you get the same feeling this was only the first part and more is to come?

Well, now as you mentioned it, it surely opened up for that possibility, didn't it?

I have seen on cinema most 3D movies (except Avatar, lol) and only two kicked asses: 1) Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole and 2) Men in Black III. The latter is a movie where you don't expect any outstanding acting performance or deep scenario just to have some fun and boy.. though directing was (just) solid, MIB3's 3D visual effects were stunning to the point they reminded me the good old days when I was anxious to see every movie Industrial Light and Magic was affiliated with! They set the standards really high with this one! Legend of the guardians, was created by some very talented artists, imo. Had good scenario and directing, providing that someone still enjoys watching an animated movie.
