    Yeah it is a fact that after a long search I finally found a PowerBook 1.67Ghz, 17''. HiRes Model! It comes with 120Giga HDD and 1Giga of RAM.

    For now it runs MacOSX 10.4.11 soon I hope for a triple boot with MacOSX 10.5.8, MorphOS and Linux :)))

    <skite> I recently picked up a 1.67GHz 15" powerbook for $100</skite> Had to put a hard drive in it and so far I've only live booted an Ubuntu cd a few times but I'm looking forward to having MorphOS on it. But it raises the question (again) - are we expecting MorphOS to work on any G4 powerbook with ATI graphics or is it just a particular model that will be supported?

    That is the same model that I bought, I like it very much. I was very happy to find out that the battery would still hold a charge that could run it for over 3 hours when it arrived. I also purchased a two year warranty for it when the eBay purchase was complete, as I know from past experience that PowerBooks are prone to hardware failures, but have not had any trouble with it for the past 6 months or so, other than an occasional freezing of the screen, which requires a hard reset.

    I am looking forward to the eventual release of MorphOS that will support it, but I do not recommend anyone buying any hardware for running MorphOS until it is either supported by a release version of MorphOS, or an official announcement is made by members of the MorphOS Dev. Team stating that a particular model will be supported.

    I don't remember if any such official announcement for any model of the PowerBook has been made yet.

    Ubuntu 10.10 for PPC runs fine on my PowerBook as well as MacOSX 10.5.8.

    @Andreas_Wolf Thanks for that. Although the table referred to doesn't mention the early 2005 models which is what I believe I've got and, as yet, I haven't found out if the keyboard and trackpad are usb devices...

    @amigadave How did you install Ubuntu 10.10? I downloaded the image for it before realising it doesn't fit on a CD and then had to get 10.04

    @ausPPC

    Only 1.67GHz models have USB keybords/touchpads.

    Aha - thanks for that. That's how fast I believe my powerbook is - sounds like there's some hope for MorphOS support for it.

    They're there, see "Jan 31, 2005 (Rev D)" column.

    > I haven't found out if the keyboard and trackpad are usb devices...

    The answer (originally provided by jacadcaps) is in the link I gave you.

    According to jacadcaps both Rev D and Rev E have this, regardless of clock speed. That would mean it's also true for the 1.5 GHz models of said revisions, which also include one model with Radeon GPU:

    Right, I forgot rev-d had a 1.5GHz variant. While 1.67 is a safe bet for USB inputs, one can easily mistake rev-d with rev-c with the 1.5GHz version though since they're almost identical and with a shorter description on ebay it may not be possible to distinguish between them - or the seller might not even know which one he's selling.

    That's true. I think the most apparent differentiator is the optical drive. Rev C one has SuperDrive, Rev D one has (faster) ComboDrive.

    On an almost related note, I recently got a Radeon Graphics card for my dual 533 digital audio Power mac, I was expecting MorphOS to be better than on the 400MHz Efika, but the difference is incredible, in fact it seems faster than the Peg 1 @ 700mHz, dread to think how good a 1.42 Mirror door/FW800 version would be!

    Oh, and while I'm here, I may be able to pick up a 1.42 eMac for £30, do we have conformation that MorphOS works on them?

    I've already got a 1.25 version that works great, but it's so big and heavy, and that constant noise from the fan? 'orrible!

    @stephen_robinson:

    no wonder, since the memory speed on your powermac is as fast as the memory speed on a Peg2, even with its 533 MHz. The memspeed of your Powermac is 6 times higher than the Peg1's memspeed. Don't be fooled by the lesser cpu frequency! An Efika with 400MHz is not even remotely as fast as a 400Mhz G4 used in many Powermac G4 (my Gigabit had a 400MHz card, and it was MUCH faster than an Efika...).

    As far as I'm aware there's no such confirmation to date. The last time this was discussed on MorphZone was there (with no result apart from MorphOS through v2.5 not working on it):

    Never did get that 1.42 eMac... Oh well..

    Any updates about the Powerbook edition? I know It's a bit 'are we there yet? Are we there yet?' But I'd love to see MorhphOS on a laptop, before I like die or something.
