What kind of experiences have people had with the new IceFS? I read everything I could on the author's website but haven't found much else beyond this. Thanks.

I switched of IceFS after my SFS partition crashed and could not be salvaged anymore. So far it has been reliable and some are sayig it's also fast, but with a G3@600 I can't see much of a difference. I trust this fs cause I see that there is active development around it.

I've used it, but I started getting crashes that went away after I reformatted using SFS, but that was a old version. I'll try it with 2.2, but first someone remind me where the ICEFS.key file goes, As I've forgotten!

Unfortunately I'm to lazy to shove all that into a spreadsheet and make nice easy to understand graphs, so somebody else will have to do the actual analysis of that.

    Sorry.. :-(

    Half done, nothing done.

Come on. Fire some spreadsheet and push the numbers together!

Or at least, your comments on these numbers!

    But that would require, effort...

I'm finding the partition with ICEFS on it stable, I may update the sys: partititon when MorphOS 2.8 comes out.

Im on holyday atm and comparing all those test results on my phone browser is not easy. So if someone could summarize the results it would help.
Right now I could just bother to read the file create and file delete results from the top of each test, and from that it looks like IceFS is much slower than SFS.

ps. Im having a Singha beer while writing this, so guess where my holyday is?

    @ stephen

Btw could you tell what other settings were used, like size of cachelines and size of blocks for SFS and IceFS ?

All standard except the max recyled files which I had a play with, and increased a bit.

Formatted with or without Logfile ?

Ok. I have made a PDF from the benchmark values:
    Comparison PDF (Updated)

I skipped the BYTE values, didn't add much interesting
    new info anyway..

A note on the slow deletion speed.. I knew about it
before but I'm still not sure why it is that slow,
should be improved in some future release.

Another note: It is a bit strange that write speed is
often higher or same as read speed in the above tests..

Right, I've turned off logging and set max recyled files to 0, and run it on SFS, and ICEFS partitions on the same physical drive again. I also ran it on the ram: Drive just for the lulz. As the young people apparently say.

    @ stephen

The latest IceFS test does not have "cpu available" enabled,
the others have so should be remade..

Results look pretty odd for 4096 buffer.

Tried DiskSpeed4.10 for MorphOS and DiskSpeed 4.2 (68k), both give weird results for 4096 buffer.

For 512 bytes buffer, i get a rough 15MB for read (LONG aligned or whatever...)
For 4096 bytes buffer, i get a rough 100MB for read (LONG aligned...)
For 32758 bytes buffer, i get a rough 55MB for read (LONG aligned...)

Something is wrong with this test. You would expect a flat rising slop with buffer increase and then no gain at all with even bigger buffer.

Unless this test measures FS caching efficiency.

Anyway, those numbers look odd. I wouldn't expect that an old 2"1/2 PATA 5400RPM drive would give a nice 100MB read.

Yeah.. its all in cache for 4096 bytes. Try with just 2 cachelines
    instead :)
