A few of the MorphOS Developers have explained on different occasions that MorphOS3.0 is the working version number that all of them use while working of different parts of MorphOS2.x and then when they have reached a point where they wish to release what they have been working on as a new release version, they bump it down to the next 2.x version number and release it. I think it was Piru that explained that when they get ready to release the real version of MorphOS3.0, their working version will probably jump up to 4.0. I first noticed Piru's working version of MorphOS as being version 3.0 shortly after MorphOS2.1, or 2.2 was released and Piru posted a forum message that had a link to the first video of MorphOS booting on a G4 PowerBook. This was last Summer sometime.
I don't know how far the MorphOS Dev. Team will go with 2.x numbers before they release 3.0, but the 3.0 release will probably be a significant step up to deserve changing from MorphOS2.x to MorphOS3.x, so maybe they will do it when the support of the PowerBook is released, as that will be a big deal to have the first real Amiga(Like) OS booting native on a PPC laptop, not AmitaOS3.x booting hosted on a Windows PC, or Amithlon booting on an x86 laptop. Another possibility would be to make the jump to MorphOS3.x when/if support for the G5 PowerMac models is released.
