Noob question (running MorphOS from other OS)

    My question is simple: is there anyway to run (under some emulators) MorphOS under Windows (or MacOS X (intel)?

    I just so want to use it.. and it seems I tried everything, including PearPC, QEMU...

    Thanks!

    The answer is simple as well: no, it isn't possible.

    Actually, the cheapest way to use MorphOS is to get a Mac mini 1,25GHz or an eMac for little money. The price of the slower and older Pegasos 1 boards decreased, too. And if you want to use a energy-saving and compact solution, and you can make compromises regarding RAM-size (only 128 MB) and CPU speed (400 MHz), the EFIKA is also a cheap solution for MorphOS.

    No, and I doubt that it will ever be supported, because all iMac G4/G5 models have got NVIDIA GPUs onboard... Currently, only Mac mini G4 and eMac 1,25 and 1,42GHz models are supported (don't know about the G4 800 Mhz and 1GHz versions with Radeon 7500). In the next version support for Powermac G4 AGP models will come, and in some later version there will be support for Powerbook G4 and (newly announced) support for Powermac G5. But nobody knows when it will come.

    iMac G4 yes, iMac G5 no:

    Did anyone successfully boot it on 1.42 GHz version? If yes, then without 3D support, right?

    A 20" G5 iMac would be a nice addition to the list of MorphOS supported hardware. Nice find with the ATI graphics cards, I don't see why they couldn't also be supported, but would likely be a good bit of work more than the G5 PowerMac.

    Edit: Yes, I saw in one of the videos that they had a G4 PowerMac running MorphOS, but I have no idea if it was only 2D supported or 3D support had been added to the OS in progress already.

    @Andreas_Wolf:

    Thanks for your clarification, I wasn't aware of it.

    Obviously, without 3D in the Radeon-driver for 9600... Would be interesting, too, if it works on the slower eMacs with Radeon 7500.

    I don't see why support for iMac G5 with Radeon 9600 should be any more work than support for PowerMac G5 with Radeon 9600.

    Is that a "yes" to my question if anyone successfully booted it on 1.42 GHz version?

    It's an answer to your question, if anyone has successfully booted it on such an eMac, then it would surely only run in 2D. I don't know if anyone has tested it. Would be interesting to know.

    a guy has a EMac with 9600 and no way to bootstrap at the moment (if you need I give you his contact)

    Then you shouldn't have stated that "eMac 1,25 and 1,42GHz models are supported". That's misleading to say the least.

    @Andreas

    summing up wikipedia page:
    1.6Ghz iMac G5 always use nVidia.
    1.8Ghz models sometimes use nVidia and sometimes ATI

    1.9, 2.0 and 2.1 Ghz iMac G5 always include ATI gfx cards :-)

    @Crumb:

    I guess the "Ambient Light Sensor" versions are best candidates for MorphOS, because they feature a Radeon 9600, whereas the versions with iSight camera (1.9 and 2.1 Ghz) have a X600.
