Michael Schulz writes on his blog:

"Download this torrent, and test the AROS for efika yourself. It is not complete yet. You will surely see it crashing. The both IDE and network drivers are missnig. The release is unstable. Just put the ISO on CD, put it into your USB-CD or USB-DVD drive and start efika. Then, type following commands in the OF prompt:

    setenv boot-device cd
    boot cd os_image

Once you see the Boot? > prompt, press 1 and be patient. The OF needs some time to read all aros' modules and will put enourmous amount of debug info. It will even report some missing file. Once AROS starts up, you will see the mouse pointer on the screen and CD drive working. Have fun. The serial port outputs debug information at 115200bps, 8N1.

PS. My upstream is limited. Please seed the file after download."

    Root dir: " " flags=0x2 extent=0x31 size=01800

Seems like booting from usb stick is still impossible. As to the CD booting - you can't use HUB, you have to plug the USB->IDE adapter directly to Efika's USB port. These issuses will probably be addressed in the next release, Michal is working hard on them :)

is there a way to maybe boot it from a partition. I dropped the iso into hd:2, but is there a OF command which may get it?
    I tried boot boot hd:2 load os_image

    it didn't go.

Tried to boot it from a CF card in a cardreader (had no USB sticks or CD at hand) but no go. OF/SLB loads the files, then it stops booting. Haven't tried to hook it up on serial yet tho', to see what's wrong...

Booting from onboard IDE, flashdisk, or through the USB hub is not supported yet. The hub issue will probably be fixed in the next release.

Only way to boot right now is USB-IDE adapter connected to one of Efika's USB ports, with CD attached to it on the other end. This works for me, I booted AROS from CD several times already.

If anybody runs into problems, please comment on the developer's personal blog to make sure that he is aware of your experiences. He is looking for testers who are willing to send him detailed bug reports and debug logs.

The new version is really worth checking out!

It finally boots from USB-Flashdisk (has to be formatted as SFS-RDB, though; there's still no full support for FAT-formatted ones).

Booting time is still impressive on Efika's slow USB 1.1, but check it out for yourselves...

And oh, write some feedback to the author, it's important! :)

Dumb question I am sure...sorry, but:

Does AROS on the EFIKA run Amiga 68K binaries?

    Thanks

No, not in the sense MorphOS or OS4 run them. Else check out Janus-UAE project, which should also run on AROS for Efika once ready, albeit rather slow due to missing JIT.

Michal Schulz has released another test version of AROS for EFIKA which now includes the ability to install AROS to a harddisk. Booting via USB is no longer a requirement.

The developer kindly asks for feedback from the EFIKA community who are willing to give it a try. Please post your comments to the developer's blog: http://msaros.blogspot.com/
