Yes, I've made my choice, I've bought an IPOd mini 4gb version @ 205 Eur.
Here my personal impressions:
the machine is very nice and compared to other solutions it seems me very "solid". Not to mention the metallic cover and the very cool look! Then, the navigation mode via touch-pad is beauifu in its simplicityl!!
The bad things are in the software side imho.
You can't do anything without ITunes program that is slow and crappy also on a Pentium2500!!
In fact, once mounted on a win box, the Ipod hd is formatted in fat95 mode and you can access it like a normal external HD in MOS via USB1.1 & Poseidon.
The sad part is that yes, you can copy mp3s to Ipod via MOS but you can't play them because you need to create a proprietary playlist with Itunes and the format of the database created by this f...ing proggy is very criptic. I'm trying to study it to try to make a MOS proggy that writes an Itunes playlist but I can't promise you nothing, as I'm not a very skilled programmer
From the linux side, i was not able to install GTKPOD because under YDL some shared libs are missing. I've tried to download it but I lost myself in dark after 2 or 3 session of cryptic ./config, make, make install...
Linux!
So, the only thing that prevent to use an IPod under MOS is a proggy able to read and write Itunes playlists. So 4 now, I'm copying my mp3s ripped with Peg directly on the Ipod and then I create my Playlists on a winbox at work... Not very nice but it works!
Is there some more skilled programmer than me that want to try?
Aloha
