I found a new bot in my logfiles and was curious:

    I think I like that idea :D

    1. It requires to have unlimited broadband connection to the Internet (while for example most popular ADSL here is limited by GBs per month).

    2. No MorphOS client.

    3. No teams, no platform stats.

    I stay with dnetc.

    Hi there,

Thanks for taking time to post about the project :)

I felt it was necessary to respond to some of the issues stated above:

    1. You do indeed need to have unlimited broadband, there is no way around it.

    2. The only platform that is currently supported is WinNT 2000+ running .NET framework. The client will be ported to other OSes using Mono's project. Porting is not on top of priorities at the moment due to:
    a) lack of requests (vote page is linked from downloads area)
    b) Mono is about to finish implementation of WinForms, which would make porting much easier (no need to develop new GUI).
    c) getting stable client was top priority and troubleshooting one platform is a lot easier.

My personal estimation that ports will be available in March 2005 (after launch of search engine).

    3. We have no teams because project only started whats the point to have teams with 1 person each? None! System was designed to have support for teams and it will be added as soon as we get 30-50 people crawling, OR if people request that -- this project is driven by users, if you don't request then priority for implementation will low.

Platform stats - no platforms apart from Windows right now, so it makes no sense. As soon as ports are done there will be platform stats galore.

    4. d-net: I used to run it myself, ages ago, and I think they have proven 2 points:
    1) massive brute force can crack some cyphers
    2) distributed way of doing things can achieve a lot

Think for a moment -- how many times a day you use a search engine and how many times you reap the benefits of d-net? I found that for me ability to search for stuff on the Internet is critical, hence start of this project.

Join Majestic-12 in this project - this is the best time to join since project just started and you can make most different now. Your favourite OS might not be supported just now, but join with what you've got, and this would help justify spending time on porting since there will be people who want it!

    cheers
