in case Coder doesn't get a chance to post here, he has posted elsewhere (AmigaWorld) and at the moment is alright.

this is quite a horrible situation and i'm really at a loss for words.

one thing I learned from my experience with the 6.9 earthquake in Los Angeles is that aftershocks continue for months (and years, really), so we are far from an end here.

A friend of mine came back from three weeks holiday in Phuket, ONE day after the earthquake. Lucky son of a bitch, I'll give him that!

Its such a nice place, a real shame it got so messed up and so many people were killed. The death toll is now at 44,000. A sad, sad day indeed.

Went up to 55.000 in the meantime and it's said it'll rise more. It's
a scary thought to know it happened at places where one was once. I
once was at the gulf of Bengal 8well not at the center of the
destruction, but still within that area), stood at a hotel at the
beachside and became so badly ill, I would not have had the energy to
run, I would just have become a victim of the waves. Lucky me, the
earth and sea was peaceful back then. I feel sorry for all the ppl
    there...

Indeed we are ok. We live far away from those place. We live up in the north. Somewhat near Chiang Mai for people that know the area. We know those places well and not so long ago we were there with my mom/dad and sister/husband. It is high season now. Even in the low season with less people it is crowded so you can imagine how many people there are. And the death toll is rising more and more. Last year at the same day you had the earthquake in Iran with 40.000 death and I thought well at least it will not get that bad. :-(

p.s. The site is SO much faster then before. Really great. :-)

I guess the best we can do is give some money to the helping organizations like the international red cross/crescent.

For the German readers there is a list of helping organizations and their bank account at http://www.tagesschau.de/spendenkonten/0,1192,SPM26380_REF898_NAV,00.html
    available.
