i am here....wow thats very interesting...i am amazed this sliped past the radar per say for me.......very interesting though.....i am suprised that they managed to get the patent

I dont understand how they can do that? They dont even have a system that does what they just patented. I would say M$ is screwed now. They basicly just patented the Live system they use.

i am glad microsoft is screwd now they can have competition...personaly i want to see them out of the console bussiness for good. and if nintendo can do this that sounds good...i jsut wish sega was still in the console race....

I'll agree I dont like M$ and them in the console business, but I also have to say when I had an X-Box is was one hell of a fun console to hack. I had everything on that sucker from a UAE port to every majot arcade and console emulator out, with a huge 220GB hard drive to boot!

Now now, back on topic.

I would love to talk more about what this does to the console players. I still see this as a ploy from Nintendo to try to take back the market once again. From what I can see now, Nintendo owns all the rights to the console online gamming thats avail now and in the future. Will MS and others have to start paying them to use what they have built up with no help at all now?

I find it quite funny that this will sting M$, in the same way they usually treat others.

XBox is a very nice system, shame Sega couldn't have made something like that as a follow up to the excellent DC!

Reading more into this I found the patent was forst filed for the failed 64DD add on Nintendo was doing back in the N64 days. The for an unknown reason updated the patent to read what it does now, still using the original as a basis. An argument was this would have no effect on M$ Live and other because they were a "prior art" at the time the patent was awarded, BUT this all started BEFORE M$ and the PS2 came to be. I guess we will see what it will do.

it will indeed be interesting to see how this all works out....

The 64DD /was/ sold in Japan, and had working online bits. It just never made it to the West ... surely Sega had prototype DC units working online before Nintendos first patent (?)
