He compares MorphOS with one OS and with a second OS and gives reasoning in plural form for the first comparison only and decides to not give any reasoning for the second comparison at all? You may believe that, but I don't find that plausible. The way more plausible explanation to me is that the reasoning in plural form is for both Mac OS X and Mac OS 9 because he erroneously thinks Mac OS 9 to be Unix-based.

The presence of one reasoning after two comparisons coupled with the plural form of the reasoning simply gives the impression that he meant to say exactly that. And the only thing I ommited was the "with all their GUI gimmickry" part? Do you think this part indicates he didn't also mean Mac OS 9?
Mac guy here. Loved and still love the classic Mac OS experience. A nice Macintosh IIci sporting a 68030 CPU is running beside the Mac Mini G4 I'm typing this on. Had an Amiga for games during the late 80's / early 90's and somewhat keeping to come back, reading up on what's new and such and giving MorphOS another try. So I'm among the 1% I guess
