Apple iBook G4/ .33 14-Inch Late 2004 - Questions

    Hello,

few days ago I was given this laptop.
    https://everymac.com/systems/apple/ibook/specs/ibook_g4_1.33_14.html

I have some questions regarding MorphOS 3.15 and future 3.16
    1. After I installed 3.15 and Chrysalis pack, I cannot find option to tweak Touchpad settings anywhere (right click, scrolling etc)?
    2. Can I mirror MorphOS screen to external monitor using VGA out on this laptop, or use only external monitor as primary if I want it?
    3. What is optimum RAM size for normal usage of MOS (I am thinking of expanding this machine with extra RAM if needed)
    4. Will this machine be enough for 3.16 version of MorphOS?

    Thank you.

If your "normal usage" includes web browsing, I recommend maxing it out to 1.25 GiB.

OK, that is full possible ram capacity.

What about other questions I asked? Thanks.

That's unlikely. People tried connecting external displays to miniVGA port of iBook and while it does work with OSX, you're out of luck when it comes to MorphOS. Real dual display is out of reach anyway, as the machine's got only 32 MB of VRAM. Mirroring should theoretically be posible, but many users failed in their attempts to achieve that.

    1. the 1.33GHz 14" is the 2nd to last gen and DOES NOT have a USB based touchpad as the last gen (1.42GHz for the 14"). The older ADB based ones don't support gestures.
Otherwise you would see a "Trackpad" section in Preferences.

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.......

I though I got machine which will justify buying the license of 79 EUR.
I am out of luck it seems.

    Thanks everyone for the answers.

I think cased version of Raspberry Pi4 is the way to go ahead. Some unified piece of hardware which will have affordable price and all MOS options available for all users, and ease life of developers.

When such option will be available I will think again.

If you're looking for a good laptop for MorphOS then you should get a PowerBook, period.

iBook is quite OK if you're looking for a small form factor (but you should get a 12 inch version then and preferably the latest one, A1133 at 1,33 GHz) or if you're determined to run some classic Warp3D games and demos using Goa3D. In every other case the PowerBook is just better. Higher screen res, two RAM slots, more VRAM, working DVI, PCMCIA, easier to open and service (try swapping the iBook harddrive and you will understand)... Not to mention it should run faster even at the same clock speed.

This will take a long, long time - if it ever happens........
None of amigan-systems are running native on raspberry (and will perhaps never).
    Peg2, 3xPowerMac G5, 2xPowerbookG4, 2x MacMiniG4, Efika (again), A3000T and life is never boring.....
