Anyone in Europe familiar with Mopeds?
I have an old Derbi Predator LC I'm fixing up, but I have a chance to buy a Vespa Piaggio Grande and its got a neat tubular steel frame.
I thought it might be nice to hot-rod that up a bit with a 70cc kit and some other parts.

Don't get me wrong, as a former Honda RC30 owner, I like real motorcycles too.
Its just sometimes minimalism is fun.

And to the curmudgeons, yes I know this isn't a MorphOS topic.

Hot-rod and Moped in the same paragraph??? LMAO

My Suzuki DRZ400 Moto (street bike, not dirt version) is currently in pieces in my garage, and needs the carburetor cleaned, and possibly the jets replaced. I let it sit for too long and the gasoline went bad and gummed up the fuel system. Fun bike, and it has more power than my old Kawasaki 650 Enduro dual sport, but it is a little too light for freeway cruising, so best suited for short trips around town.

I have thought about possibly radically modifying it to use it as the base for a low slung tricycle car, with new auto front tires & brakes with steering wheel, and keep the rear wheel of the bike, with a bucket seat on each side of the engine, and custom fabricated fiberglass body, but that dream would be a couple years of design and fabrication work, if not more, and I have never fabricated with fiberglass before, so the learning curve would be steep. It would be my idea of minimalistic transportation for short trips and fun.

I don't know much about mopeds, but have heard about the brand you are contemplating "hot-rodding", and think you should go for it. Good luck!

You wouldn't laugh if I passed you in a residential neighborhood at 55mph on my liquid cooled Derbi.

I wasn't laughing at your use of a moped, they are economically cool and all. I was just laughing at the concept of "hot-rod" and "moped". I guess my idea of hot-rod is very different than yours. I would have used the term "Souped up", or "Boosted HP", but mostly, I was just poking a bit of friendly fun at you.

Don't worry David, I'm not that thin skinned.
But you'd be surprised how far you can push these things.
Of course the Derbi Predator was fast out of the box, so when you bump it up to 70cc and add a few other bits, well it IS actually pretty funny seeing something that small move that fast, so...yeah "hot rodding"...I can't think of a better term.
    Intensely silly, but fun.
