MOS 3.9, several questions

    Hi !
Sorry I decided to post here because I have several different questions and I could not open a single thread for every topic lol...
Are u so kind to cover them all ? :) Still actuating my slow migration from MOS 1.4.5 to MOS 3.9 btw...

    1) GFX Card. I've been useing a Radeon 9200Pro with 128 MB since many years and it always worked fine. However, I recently saved from
a dismantled PC a Radeon 9250 (always 128 MB) and I wanted to try it out of curiosity, to see whether perhaps it performed any faster.
In the supported hardware I saw it listed, but once installed it in my Peg2 I experience frequent and random crashes (the system simply
locks up unexpectedly). Any idea ?

    2) PowerMac. I'm almost contemplating the idea of getting a PowerMac G5 (I see many on ebay for 150 euros or so) to install MOS on it. But
I have no idea of the limits and issues I may encounter... for example, if a G5 2 ghz works fine, if 2 GB RAM are supported, whether is SATA
supported, any compatibility problems or things I must be aware of with MorphOS ... can anybody provide me with a link or thread covering all
    these topics, if any ?

    3) Ethernet speed. I'm useing the onboard Gigabit port of my Peg2 with MOS 3.9 of course. My LAN is all wired cat 5e and my ethernet switch
is Gigabit aswell. But strangely enough, the screen bar module Network insists that the speed of my port (mv6436x_eth.device:0, Line Rate)
is only 100 Mbit/s. The program NetStat says nothing about speed (I checked twice). But the WebGui of my Switch confirms that the host
connected is linked at 1000 Mb/s, as it does the green led. How can this be ? A bug ? Any hints ?
(It seems an old common problem btw... even under MOS 1.4.5, where I'm forced to use MOSNet with the 10/100 port, the MUI control
panel insists I'm connected to just 10 Mb while my switch confirms I'm connected at 100 Mb...)

Also... it looks like there's no way to config the NIC ... to set things like indeed speed, full duplex, etc. At least not in the
System prefs/Network... are these settings not supported yet, not even in MOS 3.9 ? Or one should create a .config file in envarc:sana2/
in order to play with those ? Or I simply can trust the defaults ?

    4) Preferences for MUI requesters. Why isn't there any way to set the MUI preferences for the File Requester and for the Font Requester ??
I couldn't find any way to change them, and there aren't any MUI preference editors for them. I'm asking in particular for the Font
requester... cos I find very annotying that the Font Preview is always disabled by default, and everytime I pick up a font I have to enable it
manually. Any way to change that, and other MUI-Requesters settings ?? Some hidden variable to set maybe ?

    5) Ambient, lister colors. It looks there's no way to change the background colors used by the lister (the alternately colored rows). I wanted to
set some tints which better suit my tastes (darker grays or light blues maybe, and more differentiated...) but apparently Ambient doesn't allow
to change them... ok unless I draw an actual background pattern with alternate rows but I shall recompute it everytime I change the font size,
which is boring. Any idea ?

Thank u for ur support and patience once more ! Oh I apologize in advance if I won't be able to reply to every suggestions. Thx.

G5 2 GHz works fine, but currently only 1,5 GB RAM is supported. It's said to change in 3.10 (to about 1,8 GB max). Of course PowerMac G5 supports 4 or even 8 GB (depends on specific model), but only when working with OSX or Linux.
SATA is supported (two bays for hard disks) but the onboard controller could be picky when it comes to SATA II or III disks. The 3,5" ones often have a jumper to set the "compatibility mode", the 2,5"/SSD ones - don't.
Compatibility problems - make sure you get the proper PowerMac. The "dual/quad core" won't work with current MorphOS version. Many PowerMacs have nVidia gfx cards installed. If you get one then you'd have to change it to a compatible Radeon (and that's a whole story). When it comes to software - I've ecountered very few problems. I remember two games (OpenJK: Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast) that required a manual change in config file to run.
Oh, and if you decide to buy one - make sure you get it packed well (and I mean WELL) - the postal service is regulairly destroying the fragile parts of the case - especially the "handles".

EDIT: And watch out for the water cooled 2,5 GHz/2,7 GHz ones. They're probably leaking already, so if you decide to get one make sure to rebuild the LCS.

    1) 9250 is the budget (slower) version of the 9200 so better avoid that
Your card may also have some issues (have been useing 9250s in Peg2/Efika for years)

    2) Make sure it is an AGP/PCI-X G5, the ones with PCIe aren't supported
You'll get close to 2GB useable RAM
Make sure it has (genuine Apple) Radeon, NVidia won't work, flashed cards can be problematic
SATA works but it has problems with some SATA2/3 drives (mainly SSDs), this is a HW issue so you might get a more detailed answer on which drives work on Mac forums

You can set the background color/pattern from Ambient MUI settings (Lists), but I guess the alternated rows effect can't be changed. Its quick help seems to say "every other line is 10% brighter", so I guess it's a fixed value.
