Ok thought this was rather interesting can anyone tell me how your meant to install flashless as the install guide is'nt that clear!

Could'nt find the BeautifulSoup.py anywhere, so download it from another site, but where are these files meant to be placed? (i've tryed them in libs/ python 2.5) in the flashless directory and even in my system directory.

python Sys:Flashless/Flashless 0 "%l"

sys:Flashless/Flashless 0 "%l"

then moved flashess to libs/python2.5

sys:libs/python2.5/Flashless/Flashless 0 "%l"/

And result ends up in nothing or a cd error message (can't remember what it said)

so any help would be great

I'm using Python 2.4.4 7a final and when unarchived the lha file I found a lot of directories. One of them is called "site-packages": in that dir you have to place the "BeautifulSoup.py" file. The second dir is "lib-dynload" and in this you have to put "_socket.pym" file. Unfortunately, I noticed that those files are no more in the Flasheless 0.15 release (the "libs" directory isn't present) so you have to recover the version before.
You wrote you did it so the second step is to place the whole Flashless directory wherever you like (I placed mine in "Tools" f.e.) then open OWB prefernces and:

Go to Settings/Preferences/Contextual Menus.

Add these 2 entries in 'Link' category:

1)

Label (Name): Flashless PLAY
Command (Action): python <your path>/Flashless/Flashless 0 "%l"

2):

Label (Name): Flashless SAVE
Command (Action): python <your path>/Flashless/Flashless 1 "%l"


Add these 2 entries in 'Page' category:

1):

Label (Name): Flashless PLAY
Command (Action): python <your path>/Flashless/Flashless 0 "%u"

2):

Label (Name): Flashless SAVE
Command (Action): python <your path>/Flashless/Flashless 1 "%u"

Then you are ready to see the movies opening the menu directly on the loaded page with video (right mouse and select play or save) or opening the menu on the video link (right mouse, same as above).

Python 2.5.4 on MOS is more featured than 2.4.x.
I've not tested, but Paolo Germano is aware about the release and I think Ihe can release an update.

BeautifulSoup (http://www.crummy.com/software/BeautifulSoup/) is available for 2.4 to 2.6 Python series.

Paolo: if you can give us something? have you tested Flashless on 2.5.4?

Note: yes, place all Python thirdparties in LIBS:pythonX.Y/site-packages/
The "sys.path" python list variable is pre-configured on this path.

And it still does nothing! i've had a quick look around and everywhere has updated to flashless 0.15 and the link to python2.4.4 7a final is dead.

Ok small update.

I went to youtube on on the homepage there was a video (videos being watched just now) so i right clicked and selected flashless play and got this message:

So I opened the video in a new tab ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZ5DfWN3fWU ) and right clicked selected flashless play and got a format selector, so picked my format and got this error message:

Ok, works perfectly with Python 2.5.4 and BeautifulSoup 3.0.7a.

Nothing special:

Prerequist: install Python 2.5.4 using archive and install documentation here.

1) Download BeautifulSoup here (lastest version worling with 2.x series)
2) Thank to Ambient: just double click on the archive name until the directory and drag its name in RAM:
3) Open a new Shell, 'cd' inside the beatutifulsoup directory (where there is a 'setup.py' file) and type.

python setup.py install

4) download Flashless.lha on Aminet and install it inside a new directoy at anyplace.
5) inside your flashless directory, edit the file 'Flashless.conf' and change the Mlayer binary path with your setup.
6) to test Flashless before to setup OWB, in a Shell, 'cd' inside the flashless directory and type:

python Flashless 0 "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkeF7gfyM-U"

(It's a zero after Flashless and before the URL)
A popup should open to ask inwich format the dl should start. Select one and let the show!

I'm resuming this very thread because I'm at home for 2 days of holydays and I'm playing a little more with my PowerMac (I booted OSX 1 time in this week only to update my IPod) and I'm trying to set up flashless follwing YomGui's tutorial. I've installed everything but i get this error message in all the pages I've tried:

Sorry it was not possible to identify any direct media access inside this html document

Flashless is probably obsoleted by the multiple Youtube changes that happen every now and then. :)
You might need a current version of Flashless (assuming it's maintained), or use getvideo instead.

I'm having more phun everyday using MorphOS, installing manually and configuring progams, knowing exactly what every file means on my hd!
Maybe I'm crazy but this is the Amiga-way of doing things and I like it so much

I downloaded flashless 0.15 to make some experiments with streaming sites.

Unfortunately version 0.15 lacks of two python scripts7libraries present in previous versions 0.10 and 0.14.

Also on Amiga repositories there are no more copies of elder flashless versions.

Author Paolo Germano seems disappearing from Amiga scene. I sent him a mail request, but he never answered.

Fikes missing in 0.15 are:

beautifulsoup.py

_socket.pym

I found on internet a recent version of Beautifulsoup but I can't find _socket.pym nowhere.

Is there any of you who still owns an old copy of flashless.lha in order to get _socket.pym.

If someone still owns one, I'll be glad to him if he could send me file _socket.pym or elder flashless.lha version.
