Some of you may have seen where I recently mentioned that I'd picked up a dirt cheap G5 2.7 GHz system.
Well today I picked up a replacement processor for one of my older Socket AM3 based systems for $40.
Its a Phenom II 840T.
That may not sound too impressive, but you have be somewhat familiar with the line.
The 840T is also referred to as the 940T.
The T stands for Thuban, these are the last X4 Phenom IIs, and they are actually based on a six core die.
Most unlock to six cores.
And while the stock speed is 2.9-3.2 GHz, as it is a 95 watt processor it should have no problem overclocking to between 3.4 to 3.6 GHz.
So, six cores at 3.4 GHz, it makes an FX6100 look expensive.
And it should perform better.
