    Today's distributed.net CPU/OS distribution stats reveal that MorphOS based computers crunched more nodes than OpenBSD on x86. The next platform to reach is NetBSD on AMD-64 :-).

    Wow, is that thing still going on...?

    :-)
    MorphOS is Amiga done right! :-)
    MorphOS NG will be AROS done right! :-)

    @krashan

    That's good news! Not sure if it actually promotes MorphOS very much but it's fun to overtake other OS's.
    Btw do you know what balage at amiga.hu is crunching with? Seems to be submitting a lot of gnodes for the Pegasos team.

    @takemehomegrandma

    OGR-27 could last about 7 years according to a rough guess on distributed.net

    I have no idea but I guess that he is an administrator at some university or other institution and installed clients on all computers there...

    Huh? OGR-27 started 273 days ago (February 2009) and is at about 6% currently. That means there are still 4250 days (11.6 years) to go based on the actual mean rate, or 2894 days (7.9 years) based on yesterday's rate. As computing will get faster, the OGR-27 project will be finished way before, though. Based on the growth rate during the first 273 days I'd estimate an end in 3.3 years from now.

    Actually, OpenBSD as a whole (x86 + AMD-64) is still way ahead of MorphOS ;-)

    So he isn't crunching for MorphOS then?

    Well MorphOS is still higher up on the leader board, so OpenBSD shouldn't have split its effort like that :lol: :-P

    So let's hope MorphOS won't split its effort to x86 or ARM then ;-)

    You didn't really believe it could have had ended, did you? ;-)

    (Btw, I don't think that was obvious. Ruud misunderstood you also.)

    @Andreas_Wolf

    So he isn't crunching for MorphOS then?

    No, he isn't (unless he has a big farm of MorphOS machines). In OS/hardware classification, the system and hardware reported by the client is taken into account. You can "cheat" for example running Amiga 68k client on MorphOS, or by running Windows client under Wine, but that's another story.

    On the other hand in team competition, OS/hardware used does not matter.

    Thx for confirmation.

    I know all this of course, hence my "question" (which was a concealed observation really) :-)

    Cool. The next, relatively easy step will be to reach OS/2 on x86. Then things will be harder... Only increased number of contest participants may help.

    What's the goal of these crunching? Is for any project in special?

    And the applications for it?. I mean, crypto, security, etc... or is just for the sake of it?

    From the Wikipedia link I gave you:

    "One practical use of Golomb rulers is in the design of phased array radio antennas such as radio telescopes. Antennas in a [0,1,4,6] Golomb ruler configuration can often be seen at cell sites."

    Seems I was too optimistic. My estimation was for 3 months ago but it's still running and at 85% right now.

    BTW, we have a new team, named Team MorphOS (with some MorphOS Team members participating, as well as a bunch of users). We are making fast progress and have quite nice daily throughput (see daily updated graph). Everyone is invited (of course not only MorphOS machines may be used).
