Hi,

I have a Mac Mini G4 running OSX 10.5.8 (so there's no doubt the drive is working fine). I would like to overwrite (re-partition, new install, etc) it with Morphos 3.4. I recently upgraded the drive to a Kingspec PATA SSD drive and OSX has had no problems with it for the past 4 months.

I downloaded MOS 3.4 and burned a CD with the ISO. When I get to selecting a drive, I am getting the message, no valid boot partition found. From the installation instructions on the MorphOS web site, it seems pretty straightforward.

What am I missing?

Not sure what your trying to do here, so just tell me where it fails:
- boot from MorphOS-CD
- select keyboard
- when the welcome-window appears, choose install
- choose "new install", not update
- choose automatic HD layout
- let MorphOS install it files

Yes, those are the exact steps that I've been following, however, when I get to the options for Partition the hard disk with the choices of Automatically or Manually, it defaults to Automatically but there's no hard drive listed above to select from. However, as stated previously, I can reboot and it continues to launch into OS X Leopard which I have backed up and am willing to completely overwrite with MOS.

Just to make sure that the drive and partition map is fine, I just downloaded and installed Ubuntu 12 on the Mac Mini G4. That went fine. When I booted back into MorphOS CD to try a new installation, I still am unable to see the HD and/or partitions.

Any last thoughts/suggestions? If not, I will have to give up on trying to install MOS.

It has been ages when I installed MorphOS but isn't there an option to create new partition layout?

I do not see any options in the installer to create a new partition layout.

The HDConfig tool also states no storage media found.

How big is your SSD? Can you see it in Mounter tool? If not it looks like ide.device can't recognize drive and there is nothing to do...

I bought it on Newegg and this was the description:

KingSpec 64GB 2.5” PATA MLC IDE SSD Solid State Disk SM2236 Controller Model KSD-PA25.6-064MS

When I had OS X Leopard installed it saw it as a 59 GB Drive.

I don't see the SSD in the Mounter tool. I believe that the ide.device it sees refers to the CDROM drive in the Mac Mini. It has a size of 220.4 MB.

There is an option to Create Mountlist...but I've never used it before.

I can only imagine MorphOS can't recognize the drive for reason or another. Are there any jumpers on the drive? Like cable select or something like that? I recall it was not working with Pegasos something like 10 years ago. I dont know if it is still relevant. Other than that I am out of ideas.

Good new, bad news...

Good news, I was able to install MorphOS 3.4.

Bad news, I had to swap out my SSD and use my old HD. I tried all jumper settings on the SSD (Master, Slave, and Cable Select) and all did not work. The SSD works fine as it still runs Ubuntu when I boot with it.

At least it works now :)

I don't think you will notice much difference anyway. MorphOS starts and runs very fast on HDD anyway
