    Hey everyone,

I've been using a Mac Mini G4 for a couple years now and it's great, but back then when buying it, I didn't have an option to get the 64Mb Video RAM version, so got the 32Mb one.. was to impatient and excited to wait for the 64Mb version, 1.5Ghz version..

Anyway, I've finally found one and got it yesterday, a 64Mb one, yay!!

And if anyone wants one too, there's one more to grab here:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Apple-Macintosh-G4-Mac-Mini-1-50-GHz-1-GB-80-GB-HD-Leopard-10-5-No-Power-Supply-/201006265428?

This is not my auction, I am just a buyer and I don't know this seller, just to be clear, and hope it's ok to post Ebay listings here? Mods, please moderate if this is not allowed. It sells without the power brick and cable, but that's ok, I'll use the existing one I have.

    Now the question..

Before I receive it and register it, I would like to swap the 5400RPM HD for the SSD one, so anyone having an SSD drive in their Mac mini G4, please suggest which SATA SSD (2.5"?) to get and which IDE to SATA converter would work (and fit) in?

Anyone that used 32Mb video ram and then switched to 64Mb, can you maybe share your experience performance wise? Can't wait to try the 64Mb one, and thanks for your help guys.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone!

It is not faster but with 32 MB it is easier to run out of VRAM slowing down display performance. It really depends what resolution you prefer and if you had enhanced display enabled.

I have Radeon 8500 with 32MB on my Efika and in full hd resolutions it is too little with enhanced displays.
    1 + 1 = 3 with very large values of 1

A part from being able to enjoy higher res screens in true color depth, and with enhanced display active, 64MB of VRAM are really much better with some more demanding games, like Virtual Grand Prix 2 with the medium/high res texture update, Aquaria, UFO: AI, Speed Dreams and TORCS recently ported by BSzili and a few others. In general, when the the system runs out of gfx RAM, it starts to swap and slows down gfx refresh, and this happens of course in a lot less occasions with 64MB. You can monitor the gfx mem usage with the screenbar modules Graphicsmemory and Memory.

    Kind regards,
    Andrea

Thanks guys for sharing your experience and knowledge, much appreciated.

Will wait for the 64VRAM mini to arrive, in the mean time will try to find a proper SSD and adapter for it.

EDIT: I've been using the 1920x1080 and Enhanced display on the 32VRAM yes, so hopefully the 64VRAM will work faster.

    Thanks much!
